Sounds like it's all gone well so far for Shadow...glad to hear he was still being entertained without getting into trouble.
Well, last day in Michigan. Went to a neighbor's down the road for zoomies and swimming in the lake. The swans stayed by their nest and we didn't go near - stayed leashed. Shadow got to wade and splash in the high water table. Did discover that the swans didn't seem to mind the sand hill cranes landing in the yard but I don't know if the cranes were being respectful of the swans and not wandering their full routine. Shadow found the cranes fascinating. I don't think he could figure out if their strutting about meant their were human or bird. He had a very wrinkled confused expression on his face but no interest in investigating (I've seen the damage crane beaks/bills can do so glad of that).

Keep the dog away from the swans. Mutes are very strong and have tremendous power in the wings. They can break bones and do serious damage or if the dog is in the water easily get the upper hand there as well. I would not risk a conflict. They will be protective of the nest area.
