Brushing and grooming the coat regularly will keep the coat and skin healthy.
Labradors tend to have a major shed twice a year, where they drop all of their undercoat, then replace it with new undercoat. Frequent brushing stimulates the hair follicles, encouraging old dead hair to come out, and new growth to come in. When it seems like it is the worst, I use an undercoat rake daily, (NO Not a furminator) and a warm water rinse, and blow out with a high velocity air dryer. The warm water opens the hair follicles and enables the coat to come out easier with the air dryer.
I sweep almost once a day too. LOL

I also let Hemi Swim a lot this really gets out a lot of hair as well....
It hadn't even occurred to me that swimming would help loosen out some hair. We'll head to the lake!
