    Recycling The Shed

Shedding fur that is. Been brushing the heck on Archie lately. His undercoat is even fluffier than a labs and longer. Portions of the yard looked like a fur rug this morning. By this evening it's almost all gone. Little sparrows that been coming in droves to gather and line their nests. Their chicks are going to have some warm, soft beds.

LOL, my neighbor came over and got me the other day, she said I got something to show you. I went over and she opens up a bush a little. Inside is a robins nest with eggs on a bed of yellow fur. Which Have been outside brushing him out almost daily. We laughed too cause there was also a pink ribbon wove all around and through the nest as well. Hemi is contributing to the baby bird welfare as well.

Yup - went over Chloe with an undercoat rake on the front porch yesterday and 20 minutes later saw a little bird flying off with a big clump of fur in it’s beak.

Gee whiz, I put the shed hair out too and I've never seen a bird come to get it or found a nest or house with it inside. Lucky you to see that.

I put the fur out in my flower garden-it keeps deer out for a few days. Something weird in my house--Dakota is not shedding at all but China's fur is coming out in droves-its crazy. ..

Forgive my chat forum ignorance if this isn't the right place to ask this. My family and I just moved to a home in southern itah and my lab is shedding like a lab. This is her 2nd summer here, she is 8 and she and our setter were fostered (and outside dogs for the first time) by my parents the last year while my husband's work moved us all over God's creation.

We got a cute little home with an awesome super shaded back yard but they've always been inside babies for us. I'm assuming it's the more intense heat that is making her seemingly drop more hair but there's hair EVERYWHERE.

It's all over the floor, on all the furniture, on my children's clothes and making mini mistaches under their snotty noses. I have it in my eyes and mouth at least once a day and thought I was on the brink of insanity before adding in the shedding lab factor.

We've had our Bella since she was able to walk under our couch upright. My adopted fur babies aren't disposable to me. Breaking up the family isn't an option. So I'm going to need EVERY trick and hack and helpful hint to cut back the hair in the house because I can't live like this anymore and I DON'T want to make my girls outside dogs even if we do have a sweet set up.

I have an undercoat rake that works great, just not sure how often is too much.

    Thanks for advice in advance.

Kong Zoom groom is an excellent hair removal tool during shedding season. Your are correct it is the heat and the heat change and they are shedding the winter undercoat. The zoom groom is soft and gentle and can be used daily durring shedding season. I also let Hemi Swim a lot this really gets out a lot of hair as well, but if you have a pool it sure does clog a lot of filters.

If you mean a furminater you can overuse it and damage top coat. I have a rake like this one https://i5.walmartimages.ca/images/L...g?odnBound=460 that works fairly well but has to be used repeatedly. I am careful on boney parts and when I back rake, try not to back rake too often even if I do smooth the hair back in the correct direction. I have a curry comb too, which is much the same as a zoom groom, and it doesn't get down into the undercoat as well as the rake. Oban had a very heavy shed this spring and summer. A bath after a play in some stinky water helped get most of the hair out best.
