We Met Another Dog Named Oban Today. AND ....

And he's a yellow Lab. What are the chances, eh? Neither the other lady nor I have ever met another dog named Oban till today. And for them both to be the same breed, incredible. The dog's met and played and bounced around and seemed to like each other right away. It was only later, as she was driving out and stopped to speak, that we discovered they had the same name. Close in age too, hers is 10, my Oban is 9.5. We have exchanged emails and will plan to contact and arrange a walk together every now and then.

Neat story! It will be interesting to see if one of you calls "Oban!", will both come running or will they (correctly) discriminate between your voices and only one respond? If you try it, let us know what happens!

That’s great! I’ve recently become friends with the owner of another Chloe who shows in Obedience. Not a Lab though - the “other Chloe” as we refer to her is a GSD and they’ve run off against each other for placements several times now. Of course, Chloe isn’t as unusual a name as Oban though!

This may already have happened. I was at the top of a hill and Oban was at the bottom when she and her Oban first chanced along. I whistled mine and he came right back to me but then he turned and followed her to her truck. She was afraid my Oban would follow her truck when she drove away but he did come back to me. However she stopped to make sure he was all right and that's when I discovered her dog, who was giving me kisses out her open window, was also Oban. I wonder if my Oban went back to her because she was calling her Oban? I'll ask her next time.
