    Stop chewing

How can I get Coal to stop chewing on the side of my dads house? He's done chewed the spindles on the deck, now he's starting on the siding. I'm at work offshore. Help please

Training might help but dogs hate the taste of Vicks Vap-O-Rub (it comes in a non-greasy lotion). I'd start with that and then see if you/your dad can work with him on "leave it".

Is the dog left outside alone? That's typically when stuff like that happens. If they can't supervise, the dog needs to be crated.

Labs get bored and anxious if they don’t get enough time with their people. Being with another dog is better than nothing, but doesn’t really meet their needs. Can whoever is keeping him for you (your dad?) do some basic training with him? The bonding and mental exercise will be good for him. Also maybe if they spend more time actually playing/interacting with him that can help. Being left outside without supervision for long periods is not a good idea. If they have to do that, it might be better to build a kennel run for him to minimize the amount of things he can get into.

The only way to stop it is to have a human out there with the dog supervising and redirecting. even with another dog there, dogs keep busy in ways that are fun ... to dogs.

    So options:
    - not leave the dog outside unsupervised
    - remove access to the side of the house that they are destroying (note that the destruction will likely just be put to other objects)
    - possibly try bitter apple spray or other (safe) deterrent on the house.
    - try more physical and mental exercise when they are home and limiting the overall hours the dog spends outside unsupervised .

When I'm home he's with me 24/7 unfourtantly I'm gone to work 28 days at a time. Every day after my dad gets home he spends a couple hours playing with both dogs.
Coal has been through puppy school, and basic training.

part of the issue may be (hard to know without seeing) SA (seperation anxiety). If the dog is used to being with you 24-7 when you are home (as in you don't go out for long hours every day) then he isn't used to this. he possibly never learned how to "be away" from humans. so being alone outside (regardless of the presence of another dog) is causing issues. Not only is he missing YOU but he is now having to spend time alone (without humans) for long hours every work day.

Is this your first time away since getting the dog? How old is the dog? how long is your father gone?

Is the dog crate trained? Can you dad dog proof a room and keep him there?

There is no "one shot easy solution" to this issue. There are things you can do upon your return to help the dog prepare for the next work departure but in the meantime your dog will need to find management solutions such as those mentioned above. Upon your return you can work on slowly destining the dog to being alone for short and then increasing duration of time during the day and do some anxiety reducing things (music, safe room, crate training possibly, etc.)

My dad is gone 8 hours a day. Coal dog is 16 months old so still has a lot of puppy in him that was understood. He's been away from me plenty while he was in training, he was at the trainers while I was at work. There's not really a room to dog proof. The reason I'm with him 24/7 when I'm home is bc I miss him more than I do my ol lady, so when I get home I spend as much time with him as I can.
