Thank you all for your support and mojo!

Nikki is home for the moment. The diagnosis was pancreatitis but they don't know what caused it and it was relatively asymptomatic. She only threw up once. The vet was OK with sending her home once she ate. And she did put down about 1 1/4 lbs of pork loin when we showed up this evening. She ate more when we got home.

The confusing thing is that the ultrasound showed a softball sized mass in her mid abdomen which doesn't seem to be attached to a particular organ. It could be coming out of her abdomen wall and looks like it's been around for a while. There were also swollen lymph nodes from her pancreas which makes sense given the pancreatitis and her liver was a normal size which apparently isn't common in an older dog.

So we're going in next week and taking a look around, potentially removing that mass and taking biopsies of everything.

I am glad to hear that Nikki is feeling better and has a treatment plan! Eating is a tentatively good sign.

One of my friends' just went thru this ~2 wks ago. I'm wondering (and maybe not understanding the post) but why is she eating pork loin? Pancreatitis is often caused by a high fat diet. My friends' girl was very sick, and was on special diet until just a few days ago. She will have to go back in for more bloodwork soon, but almost back to a normal diet now.

When the fat is cut off, pork loin is comparable to chicken. Pork tenderloin by itself is comparable to chicken. She also eats chicken and fish. Lamb and beef are right out. She get acid reflux with turkey. She can't eat anything out of a can because the PBA's in the can linings trigger her incontinence on an epic level. The blood enzymes in lamb and beef leach the PBA's from the plastic into the meat so with that, it's not just fat but the PBA's. We don't like most ground meats (veal and turkey) because of the additives.

We reviewed everything with the vet. Everything is cooked so maybe that's the difference. I hope your friend's girl is OK.

Good to hear Nikki is home. She'll certainly feel better in familiar surroundings.

Agree about the pork loin. Found out during my time on a very limited fat diet, lean pork, along with chicken and fish, was a very good option for meat/protein. Did very well on it.
