Boy labs ARE different from girl labs!

I'm pet sitting two male labs. (I'm staying at their house and Kimber's back home with her daddy, so no Kimber stories!)

On this board, people often talk about how male labs tend to be more loving and often are more goofy.

We used to watch Kimber's BFF, another female lab, all the time, but this is my first prolonged exposure to male labs. And in this case, they really are SO different from Kimber!

Lazlo is 7 and he's very sweet. He keeps coming over for belly rubs and uses his paws to direct where he wants scratches. He knocked over a big urn and broke it (trying to get a tennis ball that had rolled behind a neighboring piece of furniture, of course), and when I shooed him away so I could clean up the mess, he got very sad. Such a "shoo!" would've rolled off Kimber's back like water.

But Oscar, who is 3, is the epitome of the stereotypical male lab. He's built like a tank, keeps bringing me things from around the house in his mouth, and is such a goofball. He'll run after a ball, see his reflection in the window, and get distracted by the other dog right there who might want to play with him. LOL. His owners said, "Oscar, well, he's not so bright."

They love to follow me around, although nicely, they don't demand to be underfoot. When I get up in the morning, Oscar is laying down outside my door. Whenever I enter a room, they immediately start wagging like crazy and then roll over for belly rubs.

I miss my Kimber girl, but am definitely enjoying my time with these boys. I feel like quite the labbie celebrity!

LOL I love hearing your stories with Lazlo and Oscar they remind me of my boys Coleman and Bailey.

We had a friend (retired Marine) come in to watch our boys for a weekend, we figured she would be able to handle them..... they ended up stealing her wallet and ripping up her licenses, a credit card and her bank card. Kept her on her toes all weekend, needless to say she said she would never watch them again.

    What fun for you!

I was told by a breeder that the females love you but the males are IN love with you. I found that to be true.

I've only had one female and one male Lab but Oban is more loving. Jet was rather hands off and I used to wish she would follow me around as other people said their dogs did. Now Oban has his gimpy leg, he's bigger, and he's always underfoot or moving whenever I do which aggravates his leg. When I garden Jet would lie beside my row till she got hot, then she'd move to shade. Poor Oban seems to feel the heat more but maybe that's because he just stays in it, beside my row. I threw tidbits to both of them so that's not it.

They are so funny together. They play a lot of bitey face and keep away, of course, but they also are partners in troublemaking. Lazlo noticed a ball under a chair and started knocking things over to get at it, and while I was running over to save the vase and lamp, Oscar was ahead of me to see what Lazlo had found, and started causing destruction from another angle. Then when I rolled out the ball, they tore it apart together. Now they're napping like angels...

Love it! When I was first speaking with the breeder where we got Thor, I mentioned how I was just in love with the goofy personalities of every lab I knew. After some prodding she made me realize that all of them had been males, so it helped me make the decision of male vs female. And oh boy did we get that goofy/dumb/sweet personality with Thor!

My last lab was a girl and I loved her, but if you tried to cuddle with her she'd look at you and move away. I wanted a cuddler sooo badly with my second lab which is why I went with a male and I sure am happy! Bubba loves to be on me all of the time. Doesn't matter if has to nudge my computer out of the way or just lay on top of it.
