Has anyone really tested out various jackets? We have an old one from Ruffgear but I'll likely get another. I was reading most rely on evaporation but that in humid weather evaporation is slower so they work less (and the humidity is very sadly the issue where I live). And that they work less on a thick coated dog. Looking for ways to manage Rocky's LP in the heat (beyond walking in the very early moning/not walking on super hot days - he still needs to go out to pee)
This one is expensive but uses ice packs

ChillyBuddy acts with evaporation but also reflects the heat and sun's rays (heat rays even at night or cloudy weather). I swear by these.

We have the ruffwear one, but we've actually never used it because its just been too hot! We'll test it out soon and let you know!

The phase change material is way beyond a mere ice pack. I have another brand's cool pad, no longer made, used for desert-working military dogs. Mine stays cool a long time, and it really does recharge in only a 20 minute soak in ice water, in a cooler we would bring for the day. I lent it for some of the older 4-H dogs, used it for my Lab and for my Cavalier. It made a huge difference in hot, humid weather. I am glad that you shared news of this product.

I use the Ruffwear Swampcooler vest and it works well. I use it when I am doing field work, especially picnic tests where you stand in the blind for 30 minutes in the blaring sun. I also leave it on him while he is crated in the car during field work (car is open and there are shades on the car, too, plus this vest and he's never even panted even in 100 degree, out in the open weather).
