Great news! So happy healing is progressing.
Once he is healed well enough, appropriate resocialization in a controlled manner will go a long way to getting him back on track. Can appreciate how scared it made you but remember, he "reads" your feelings and attitude. A good trainer could help both of you gain your confidence back.
Sending more mojo and prayers for continued and complete healing.

So glad things are going well! What a scary few weeks! We were right next to a dog attack at dog training school. (of all places) I will never forget it! I had to hold Timber back-because of the chaos-but the sounds and the screaming was awful! He is now somewhat fearful/reactive to unknown bigger dogs. Not sure if that experience added to it.
Good thoughts to his recovery!

Riley looks really good, so happy that he is on the mend.

I forgot, we were too. A big GSD attacked a little Toller. Both the Toller and his owner had to be Vetted and went to their respective hospitals where both got stitches. While this was a neutered male against an intact male, the Toller, we think that was not the instigation as the GSD never bothered Oban and we were in classes together. The little Toller had a show and performance career ahead of him but became very leery of all big dogs and, perversely, especially intact males. Our trainer used Oban in class with the Toller to work them together and show the Toller he would not be attacked. They were both leashed but it made me very, very proud of Oban. That's something to try with Riley, dogs who are calm and easy going to reassure him he is safe.
ETA: Since this was at a training centre where we also did trials and the owner was hospitalized the bite was reported to our human Health Board automatically by the hospital. The GSD was vaccinated for rabies but as per protocol quarantined for 10 days. He was also banned from the training centre and any future CKC competitive trial/event or the grounds on which they took place. The owners were friends, the GSD owner is a very good owner and she was horrified and of course paid the Toller's and owner's bills without question.
