The Real World Show - dog style

I'm heading to Fenzi dog training camp next week. The house we rented on AirBNB fell through just last weekend because the owner sold it and it went to closing this weekend (yes, I was livid that she did not cancel when she put it on the market and yes I did complain to AirBNB). It's not in an area that is exactly a boon for vacationers and business people, so no other houses were available. Last minute I had to get a hotel room. There were only two rooms left for three of us at the group rate (and no one wanted to pay $200 per night for a non-group rate room at a Comfort or Holiday Inn for the love of Pete!), so, because it would not have been a good idea for my two friends' dogs to be in close quarters (no love there), I offered to have a roommate.

My roommies are a senior female King Charles Cavalier and an adult male French Bulldog. The Cavalier is just there so she would not have to be boarded or dog-sat, though she is also active in nosework and may get to play a little. The Frenchie does not love Linus. He flirts and gives off play signals and as soon as Linus starts to play, even though he is not touching him, the Frenchie gets all defensive. I can't help but laugh though because sometimes when he flips out he gets stuck on his back like a turtle and there is Linus, butt tucking around the place like he's going to get chased any second, as soon as the weird little dog can right himself.

Anyway, my roomie will keep her dogs in a large x-pen for the most part when the dogs are awake in the room together. She knows Linus is friendly but could accidentally hurt one of her dogs and she is aware that her Frenchie gives mixed signals and "asks for it". We won't be in the room much anyway. Should be interesting managing everyone! This will be Linus' first hotel stay, also. He has stayed in an AirBNB apartment, but never a hotel. We are going a day early to settle in before my roommate arrives and camp starts. Wish us luck!

Good luck- all the extra furry companions sound like it could prove interesting. We've stayed in hotels with both these labs and with our bullmastiffs, when they were alive. None of the 5 of them ever did any barking. We bring crates for the labs but did not bring them for the bullmastiffs. They've never had to stay with any dogs who weren't family members, though, and I don't know how they'd be with other dogs on an elevator. I get the impression Linus is around other dogs frequently so hopefully he'll be the model citizen of the dog group.

I've only done AirBNB once and I don't need to do it again. There were just kind of weird things such as vegetables, like from vegetable soup, in the kitchen sink drainer, a bar of soap that had clearly been used in the shower (ick), and the hamper full of sheets and towels. Made me wonder if the place had been cleaned. Sorry you ran into trouble with your AirBNB reservation. That sort of stuff makes me prefer hotels over AirBNB or VRBO any day.

Linus is around other dogs a lot. He mostly ignores them after they lose their newness. He'll even totally ignore being mauled by a friendly dog or puppy if we are working. The hotels are going to be stuffed with dogs! Should be fun(ish).

Too bad about your AirBNB experience. I have used them exclusively for personal travel for several years and this is my first negative experience. I have used them in a few different countries and locally and have always had great experiences, met wonderful people and saved thousands of dollars. I only rent AirBNBs with lots and lots of excellent reviews. Staying in AirBNBs has provided me with experiences I would not have had otherwise, like a giant five bedroom farm house in the middle of a 30 acre farm with in the Tuscan countryside for less than $70 per night (and they even gave us homemade mozeralla, pasta, pesto and a bottle of lovely red wine).
