    Team Dog Whistler

    Aye Mates,
TEAM DOG WHISTLER hit the road o'er the weekend for an HRC Double Hunt Test Event hosted by the GRANITE STATE HUNTING RETRIEVER CLUB on the training grounds of the venerable Timberdoodle Club in beautiful Temple, New Hampshire. We camped in nearby Rindge, NH and Rick (owner of REV) towed his camper up to provide very comfortable accommodations for his son, Nick, Scott (owner of LEXIE) and meself, along with retriever gun dogs TRAD, REV, and LEXIE. We departed for the test on Friday and returned last evening.

The GRANITE STATE HRC is a well organized club and always hosts very efficient and challenging hunt test events, this weekend was not exception to that rule. T'was great fun amongst folks that love retrieving breed gun dogs and working with them to achieve advanced levels of training. The fellowship shared by K9 enthusiasts and the sportsmanship exhibited is integral to the many bonds of grand friendship shared amongst participants from throughout the retriever hunt test community. A chance to work dogs in challenging tests amongst friends that work cooperatively in supporting each other in the progression of competency for the benefit of the retrievers, it just doesn't get much better than that. For Rick, Nick, Scott, and the ol' Dog Whistler and our retrievers, it was just one more opportunity to share quality time amongst friends and our beloved K9 athletes.

LEXIE, REV, and TRAD did us all proud at the event with solid skills exhibited in both the land and water series of the hunt tests. TEAM DOG WHISTLER pulled a "hat trick" on Saturday with LEXIE qualifying in the Started Retriever Stakes, REV in the Seasoned Retriever Stakes, and TRAD in the Finished Retriever Stakes respectively. Needless to say, there were a few celebratory pints o' Guinness tossed back at the tailgate party hosted by the GRANITE STATE HRC after the hunt tests had concluded for the day. A bonus to an already grand day, I won a beautiful waterfowl print of a pair go green winged Teal titled "MUDDY WATER RETREAT". The hunt tests on Sunday were met with an abrupt change in heat and humidity having increased significantly from the previous day, that always a concern for our K9 athletes. All the dogs were monitored closely and kept well hydrated and ventilated.

Both LEXIE and TRAD had consecutive successes on Sunday. LEXIE earned the additional qualifying legs to earn her first HRC Title as a Started Hunting Retriever (SHR) and congratulations go out to her owners Scott and Erin on that achievement. REV earned one qualifying score toward his HRC Hunting Retriever Title (HR) on Saturday, but Sunday saw REV disqualified during the water series portion of the hunt test, his errors being a true anomaly to his usual stellar performance. REV currently needs two more qualifiying scores in the Seasoned Retriever Stakes to earn his HR Title. We are analyzing his errors and will address them with continuing training. Me lad TRAD had a grand two days going two for two in his earning of qualifying scores in the Finished Retriever Stakes. TRAD now needs to earn two more qualifying scores to achieve his HRC Hunting Retriever Champion Title (HRCH), his performance o'er the weekend was a grand Father's Day gift to meself and perfectly was timed to mark the distribution of his seven pups out of TTF BIRCH BRANCH MAGGIE to their new owners o'er the weekend.

After the award ceremony for the hunt test ended yesterday, we grabbed some grub and a photo - opportunity with the Labs at a nice little eatery known as "LAB 'N LAGER" to cap the festivities before making the trip back to Connecticut. A great weekend shared betwixt friends - two legged and four legged. Here's a few highlight photo's.

    Cheers,
    THE DOG WHISTLER
