8 raisins pumped out of her stomach. Shame on you Sunny

Sunny put her nose into a ladies purse at a meeting I was at & found a nice muffin to eat. So I asked the lady, "what was in the muffin?" She said "raisins & carrots." Thankfully I remembered they are on "the list" of what dogs should eat.
I called 3 ER's. They all said, bring her in. So $300.00 later, we're all good.
I did decide to get pet insurance. she is my 3rd Lab & since their stomach get them into so much trouble, I might as well be prepared.

    What a little sneak.

Glad you noticed and got those raisins out of her since it sounds like 8 might be too many.

FWIW...I used to put raisins out on the feeder tray and always let the pooches have a couple. I had no idea they were bad for dogs. No one ever got upset....but no one ever got as many as 8, either.

Oh, wow. I just learned something new. I was not aware that raisins/grapes were bad for dogs. (Just googled after reading this.) Thanks for sharing! Poor Sunny. "But the muffin smelled so good!" Hope she's feeling better now!

Well: I'm not a Vet, but I read even one can harm them. They go into renal failure. But apparently not all dogs are going to be victim to this. I just heard enough & read enough over the years to not take a chance.

Glad all came back up and Sunny is OK. You'd think they'd learn - nope.

I am surprised your vet pumped the dog's stomach for eight raisins... Is that really enough to harm a 75 lb dog?

I felt the same as you. I thought well if it's 1 or 2 not big deal. Sunnys is only 60 lbs. She is small. I wasn't going to take the chance. I called 3 ER's none who really had anything to gain by giving me information & they all said it was not to be ignored. I don't rely on google. I have read in my Vet books too that it can have immediate effects. As with everything in the medical field, there are no 100% 's or absolutes.

I actually think I've read that it is when I was googling after we thought Bubba had eaten an oatmeal raisin chewy bar out of my backpack, turns out he didn't we found it (I'm not at all sure about this, so don't take my word!). I think it was that grapes are toxic, and then raisins are particularly very toxic.

I used to take grapes to feed Jet when visiting my Aunt in her nursing home. The residents loved to give them to her.

I read something recently theorizing WHY grapes and raisins are bad now when so many of us used to feed them. Grapes are in recipes in Dr. Pitcairn's book on home cooking, the first edition.
