    Livid!

I'm a pretty calm, easygoing person. BUT, don't mess with my kids, grandkids or dogs.

Not long after Archie joined us we discovered he is extremely afraid of a fly swatter. Worked with him, leaving the swatter out where he could see it, sniff it, me carrying it around, etc. We have not had the need to use it so far this summer.

So, I'm at the computer and suddenly he is frantically trying to get under my legs under the desk which he never does. DH had pulled out the swatter without thinking to go after a fly. Poor boy was so afraid.

What the he!! did his previous owners do to him! Back to desensitizing him again and being aware of where he is and how quickly we take out the swatter.

Poor Archie, even after all this time the fly swatter can scare the bejeebers out of him.

Poor Archie. We often wondered what happened to make Whisper, our rescue ESS, afraid of men, so submissive she pee'd around strange men, afraid of having her ears touched to the point she'd cry. She got better but it was so sad at first. It's probably why no one took her till OH's cousin rescued her.

Our first Lab Brutus came to us afraid of brooms and wheelbarrows. (Wheelbarrows?) We often joked that a burglar could make away with all our belongings if he just brought one of those items with him.

    Archie's a lucky pup.

Poor guy! It's sad what people can do that leaves such a lasting scar on a dog.

Its sad that it left such a lasting scar in Archie's memory. I'm not a vindictive person but there are limits! I'd love to serve up some punishment that would leave the same lasting memory with his prior owner.

As angering is it is, certainly completely unintentional. At least you know what to train for. Back to training (and training DH *grin*).

Fran maybe he just never saw a fly swatted before in his old home. I know Patch goes crazy if she hears the slapping of the swatter on say the window. But she's excited. Maybe he's opposite and it's like a gun shy dog. Those dogs are also scared of fireworks, cars backfiring, the thunk of an arrow in a target. (Sorry) also going of my patches reactions here. So anyway just makes ya wonder I've seen so many "abused" dogs that I always wonder if the poor dog was just never socialized or is a nervy dog to begin with.
