    Sorry, I Don't Have a Dog. LOL

Don't worry, it's a cute story. We had such a nice walk this morning and met several nice doggies and people. First, Abby the little JR and her house mate Jersey the chocolate Lab. Both girly pups. Abby got lots of pets from me as we walked along together a little bit.

Then Bella, a Black Russian Terrier who towered over Oban. Bella had just been clipped and her coat was so soft. Her people were mushroom picking and identified some I was taking photos of. Bella's lady is Russian but said she never heard of these dogs till she moved here. Think they are not at all common.

Next we met Angus the Standard Poodle and his friend Sophie, one of the little hairy mop breeds I'm never sure of. Maybe a Shih Tzu? While Angus and Sophie were enjoying a few of Oban's kangaroo jerky treats other people with their Aussie and Bulldog went by the opposite way. At this point we had five dogs together and that's when the lady running came along and said, "Sorry, I don't have dog." She smiled and spoke to all the dogs and all we people laughed to see someone there with no dog. She made it seem she felt she was missing out, and she was. It's not a dog park but there are mostly dog people and I think most of us just are a wee bit more careful with our dogs around someone who doesn't have one, just in case they are afraid or mean or a dog makes a runner or bicycler fall. All such nice people and nice doggies this morning.

And then there's the older (yeah...older than I am) lady we see practically every morning on our dog walk. One morning we were standing and talking to a couple of other dog owners when she came up and said, "I feel as if I should have a dog."

I smiled and said she was always welcome to pet my two since they were really friendly.

"Oh, I don't really like dogs."

    Oh....

Isn't it great to meet so many nice people and dogs? Thor and I did a hike yesterday in a national forest where off-leash is allowed. I chose the hike because it was in the trees and went by a lot of lakes and it was supposed to get pretty warm out. We met tons of other people and off leash dogs who were there for the same reason and every single one of them was nice and well behaved (dogs too ). Even people without dogs would ask if they could pet Thor and they'd say something similar to your runner "oh I didn't see the sign at the trailhead that said 1 dog minimum to hike this trail!"

How close to you did she come? Maybe she wishes she did like dogs. The lady we met did, she must have. She gave the ones near her pets and especially Oban who trotted off with her at first.

Oh, we were standing on the path...I moved off a bit so that she could get around us. But we normally pass on sidewalk-width paths (sometimes narrower). She'd never indicated that she wanted to pet....I just normally volunteer my dogs for petting with people who look interested. They love the attention.

She once made the comment that she so appreciated that my two were so well behaved. She didn't like it when people let their dogs come up to her all full of energy. I guess "Oh, I don't really like dogs." should have come as no surprise to me, huh?

SunDance, maybe she didn't "really like dogs" because of an instability problem or fearing a dog jumping up.

Love it when we meet other dog people and even those who don't have dogs as long as they don't start preaching their no dog beliefs. I'd much prefer someone asking to pet than to run up to any dog.

We often go to a local large pond with a paved path around it for joggers/walkers/runners. Archie prefers the grass and I always make sure he is on a short lead or we are well off the path if a jogger comes by. Never know what might trigger a dog to chase, in Archie's case, in fun.

Oban and I don't like them running up full tilt and jumping on us. It was nice she said she likes your two.

I know someone who doesn't like dogs in general but sometimes takes a liking to specific dogs. Even she can't explain why.

It's tough having a dog that is dog aggressive. I don't know what vibe they send that makes her brush them back (not biting... but definitely not friendly... totally "get out of my face.") On the other hand, two days ago in the park a big goofy Golden came running up to her and she responded by offering play. So I don't know. She is totally chill if she sees a dog on lead. That was, I think, the product of taking the CGC class which she passed. (Hard to believe a dog like Ram Jet Rocket Dog has a CGC.) But if the other dogs are off lead, she is ready to assertively push them away. No attempt at playing dominance, just "get away from me."

So we keep our distance and try to be good neighbors when we're in the park training. I do what I can to keep my dog under control (with the e-collar and/or a lead and/or my hand on her collar) but damn, I cannot control other dogs that come racing over from 200 yards away to make her acquaintance. (Meanwhile the owners are yelling for their dogs who invariably totally ignore them.)

Anyway, old story. I do what I can. Wish she could relax and play with random dogs... but she can't.
