    Dog Sports

Since I've been feeling better, I've been looking into getting Dixie and Rebel into some sports. Dixie and I have done some training for agility, but *I* really don't have the endurance needed to run the course with her. So we more than likely won't compete in that.

Dock jumping has also peeked my interest. We've gone to three Ultimate Air Dog competitions with some friends and their dogs and with their help I've started trying to ease these two into it. So far, Dixie is the most comfortable. She'll play on the dock. And she'll go into the pool from the ramp, but we're struggling to convince her to jump from the dock. Rebel, however, gets on the dock and just lays down at the farthest end from the pool.... He won't go near the pool. Which is weird because he's always loved playing in water; rivers, lakes, kiddie pools, the waterhose, etc.

Does anyone have any tips to maybe get Rebel engaged and unafraid? Or maybe other sports he may enjoy? He doesn't seem too interested in agility... And any tips on teaching Dixie to jump? TIA

Look in to nosework. No particular obedience necessary. Dogs seem intrigued and entertained by it. Limited physical conditioning for handlers necessary.

Noseworks, Canine Good Citizen, Trick Dog, Rally, Obedience to name a few. You might need to get the dog a swim lesson in a pool to get them used to it.
