    Crate Mat Recommendations

Hey guys! Just got back from a week long trip.....more about that in a different thread later on.

I'm currently have Kong crate mats for the dogs. They do not hold up to washing/drying very well. Plus, Maverick gets really warm with it in his crate.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a crate mat that is either not real thick or heat trapping or maybe is cooling that will hold up to either washing or cleaning in some other manner?

    Thanks!

I don't have one but I seem to remember people recommending a Primo Pad for crates- hose them off, pretty indestructible, not fleecy so not as hot as a fluffy, fabric pad.

For the crate in the car I got a scrap piece of carpet and cut it to size. Used double sided carpet tape to hold it in place on the crate tray. Piece of carpet I purchased was $3 and is big enough for three pads. Easy to put in and take off, easy to shake out and/or vacuum, and I've even hosed them down. Choice of carpet could be warmer or cooler.

I think I've also seen horse stall mats recommended for their sturdiness and cushioning qualities but as best I can tell, you'd have to order a large-ish one and cut it down to size and I saw reviews on some that indicate the rubber smell is pretty strong and doesn't go away as one might hope.

I use bath mats in the car crate, usually from TJMaxx, Home Goods or another discount retailer.

Everyone in our group uses Wet Mutt crate pads. (HOME) Our issue is we often have wet dogs and we want them up off the water that's going to drain from them onto the surface they're laying on. Plus we want them to lay on a softer surface. This company also has helped sponsor our HT's so not only do I like the product, I like the company itself.

I really like Primo Pads. I use the removable zip tie downs in crates for dogs who chew and dig. Trustworthy dogs get another matt and/or blanket on top if it does not make them too hot. They are not terribly cushioned, but I slept on one next to a whelping box. It was more comfortable than a yoga mat and easy to clean. A smaller one was good for the nursing dam, at the hot and bothered stage, who otherwise was rucking up bedding, puppies and all. (I scattered washcloths for the Cavaliers pups until she got past that early stage and settled down.)
