      "Indestructible" toys

      Hah!

I don't want to mention brand names here, but.....you know that company that has the "indestructible" dragons that so many of us have/had?

Well...they've changed their materials. The "fur" is softer than the plush of yesteryear and the insides must be a more chewable material, too. The squeakers are placed in the toys in much more accessible spots...or maybe that's just the material yielding to teeth.

Dan has a few of the dragons that have held up well through the years. They've been nibbled on, tug-of-warred with, thrown around, etc.....then washed and rotated. I don't think I've thrown out any dragons since Dan has been around (8 years).

I saw where this company had new designs of their "indestructible" toys and so bought Dan a few. (the only time Sunnie wants a toy is if Dan has it and then she'll chase around with him, barking, tugging....but they're Dan's toys)

Don't bother. Dan has, so far, destroyed a donkey, a rooster, a kangaroo, and a clam. The tiny piggy is missing some parts but is basically being treated like a stuffed tennis ball and has held together....it's presently in the washer (with a dragon, two different kinds of flappies, and two well chewed on small "wolfies", one of which is actually a wolf and the other is a chipmunk). The opossum is being played with now....so far all he's done is pull out some fur. I'd already cut off the tail because the donkey's tail was gone before I checked that one for the first time. The destroyed ones were each shredded well within 5 minutes.

I would presume that even the dragons are now being made with newer materials, but I have no way of knowing. I won't be buying any more of this manufacturer's stuffies. I still have one of two of the original dragons put away, unused, so I shouldn't have to worry about finding new stuffies for my little guy anytime soon. But I do like for him to have variety.

I just thought anyone else who's liked this brand in the past might want to know.

And I just now performed a buttectomy on the opossum. Bob's been watching the little guy while I've been on here and he opened up a gaping hole next to the tail (Dan, not Bob). I just retrieved a baby-bottle shaped squeaker and all the poly filling. I'll see what he does with the empty body....it'll either be treated like a large "wolfie" or find its way into the garbage. He really seems to like the opossum.

Oh, that's too bad. We only have one of the dragons, a.k.a. Draggie, that is missing the tip of her tail and the tip of one of the little scales atop her head. Sadly I don't buy more than one at a time so I don't have any in reserve.

I must not be thinking of the same company, I don't see some of the animals you're describing, e.g. opossum or clam. Dragons, yes, others, no. Hmmm... Now I've got to find the ones you're talking about.

Oh wait, I found the opossum. I wouldn't have thought the "minky" fabric would hold up better than plush fabric but mine don't try to pluck out the fur with their teeth, only remove toes, skinny appendages and tags or labels. The tail or toes of that opossum, those would have to go. One of our bullmastiff's favorite toy was a hedgehog that had a nice honk to it rather than an annoying squeak. Teddy removed its hanging string, its label and its felt feet. Otherwise he loved that thing. Why do they tear off the little stuff?

Danny has always gone after the little things. I cut off opossum's tail before giving it to him...and I always cut off all tags.

Right now, it looks like Mr. Possy might become a big "wolfie". He's empty and flat and doesn't squeak anymore (actually, the heads of the wolfies still faintly squeak)....and his ears are a bit smaller. His butt hole, as it were, hasn't gotten any bigger...

All of our dragons are "Draggie", too.

We would love to be testers for "indestructible" toys. The black kong toys are being dismantled by Latte. The green, guaranteed rubber toy with the red center, we found the red!
Stuffies do not stand a chance with our 2! The appendages go first, then the stuffing & squeaker.

We have a few of those! Maverick doesn't chew, only carry. Bear does what Maverick does. Bear chews bones, carries his toys and squeaks them.
