We took Ben up to Wisconsin to get some beach time before fall sets in, and he had a blast! Despite loving our local ponds, he was a little hesitant at first with the big waves--he barked. A lot. An embarrassing amount, really. The beach was pretty empty (though it was a lovely day in the low 70s), so I took his leash off and he was much more comfortable being able to control his entry and exit from the water. We played tons of fetch and went for long walks, and enjoyed the sight of an Aussie and Lab playing along the beach all day, though Ben just hung out with us. He loved fetching his ball and disc from the water, but when I tried to go swimming a bit further in, that was the End of the World. At first, he followed me in willingly--then demanded that I carry him back because it was too deep. He stayed on the sand and barked until I came out, because if he doesn't like the deep water, well, Mom can't like it either! Tons of fun was had, though, and he's completely tuckered out now after his bath!

The great lakes and wave fighting is always a great way to wear them out. If you ever get up the Michigan side check out Kruse Park it is an off leash dog beach. Kruse Park Lake Michigan Beach - 3205 W. Sherman Blvd Lots of fun.
Thanks for the suggestion, we'll have to pay it a visit!
Sounds like a good time was had by all!
Looks like fun!
Living on the east coast, I don't really think of places in Wisconsin as having beaches with large waves! I guess I knew there are waves in the Great Lakes. Where did you go? Maybe he'll learn to like the waves. Once Lark figured out how to get past the breakers, she became an ocean retrieving fiend!
So North Beach in Racine is dog friendly? The dog beach closest to us, Winthrop Harbor, IL, closed. Racine is not that far away.
Kids yell with glee at the beach, who not dogs barking in glee too!

So there is a nice bike path around the beach that is dog friendly, and when we were coming around the sandy stretch we saw 4 dogs on the beach; not seeing a sign to the contrary, we figured this must also be dog friendly! Unfortunately coming out of the beach returning home through the main beach entrance we saw the no dogs allowed sign, and felt bad...I would recommend the beach as a visit though, and we'll go back but stay on the proper path in the future!
