    "white lightning"

    Aye Mates,
Many o' ye know I have been working with a young retriever o' remarkable beauty, a direct correlation to her heavily weighted conformation pedigree, that having few ancestors with any field titles beyond an AKC Junior Hunter title ( less than two in the pedigree as I recall). Initially this had me take on her training with a stipulated agreement with her owner that if I observed little to no aptitude for field work that she would be sent back home. Much to me surprise after me cautious field assessment, I was pleased to see that the ghostly recruit "SHR LEXIE BELLE ON THE COBBLE" did in fact show some traits that led me to believe she might be a "diamond in the rough" with regard to field performance abilities.

LEXIE earned and HRC STARTED HUNTING RETRIEVER title (SHR) earlier this year in going 4 for 4 whilst earning qualifying scores in the STARTED stakes. LEXIE ran in her first go at the AKC JUNIOR HUNTER stakes this past weekend doing grand work whilst handled by her owner Scott in both the land and water series. Compliments were flying as LEXIE aka "WHITE LIGHTNING" exhibited speedy and stylish bird drive and persistent hunting of the four marks she was required to retrieve on both land and water. LEXIE made classic delivery to hand of the four ducks to her owner, that being much to the liking of her owner / handler, the judges, and to the expectations of the Ol' Dog Whistler.

All said and done, LEXIE earned her first qualifying leg toward the four needed to achieve her AKC JUNIOR HUNTER title on Saturday. We are hopeful that at the end of this hunt test season LEXIE will have double titled with her HRC STARTED HUNTING RETRIEVER and AKC JUNIOR HUNTER titles. Trust in reading the dog and diligent training has paid off.

I have attached a few photo's of LEXIE running during last weekend's hunt test.

    Cheers,
    THE DOG WHISTLER
