Doggie Vacation Spot in the West?

I'm looking for a vacation spot somewhere in the west to take the boys for a week or so next year (spring, summer or fall...preferably fall, which is my favorite time of year). My ideal situation is a cabin, cottage, farmhouse, whatever, where I can relax on the porch or in a hammock and read a book while the boys romp safely off leash in a meadow and splash around in a creek between naps on the porch. No homes nearby, no need for fences, just dogs being dogs and some R&R for us all. No camping, RVs, rows of cabins or neighbors. Something relatively secluded, quiet, relaxing and beautiful.

The beach is too crowded and there are not many places where you can hang out on a porch while the dogs have free reign, at least not when the weather is decent. The coast is within 1.5 hours of me anyway and we make frequent day trips and weekend trips. No desert. Something on a lake would be nice as long as it was secluded and private. Not looking to go off the grid and chop my own wood or use an outhouse.

Willing to drive a day or two from Portland, Oregon. I was originally looking at Crested Butte, Colorado but the homes for rent in secluded areas are huge and super expensive. I'd like to spend about $200 per night and could go a little higher for the perfect place. I'd love to go to Montana or Colorado, but I know there are beautiful places in California and Northern Idaho as well.

I thought this dog-loving group that is spread out all over the US might have some suggestions!

Maybe westcoast of BC. bring your American dollars up here to the west coast of Canada. It's worth about 30% more ( I think) The Sunshine Coast is beautiful. So are the gulf islands. We just got back from Salt Spring & stayed at a place (very dog friendly) & it was on a lake. In July I stayed in a huge place, lower part of the house for $110.00 CAN per night, up in the hills about Langdale. The busy season is almost over so rates are less & you should be able to find places.

I am quite fond of southern Utah myself. Lots of lakes, cabins, fishing, seclusion. One place we like in particular is Panguitch lake. We also like Big Bear in CA

Russian River in California. Wine taste during the morning, hang out and let the dogs swim in the river in the afternoon.

We rented this house with another couple one year. 4 dogs. It was a lot of fun. 400 Bad Request

Wow, Jen, that website has some nice homes, even one bedroom places near/on the river. It's too far for me to drive but so appealing!

I was originally going to post Russian River, but in recent years they have had A LOT of problems that toxic algae in the river. Both dogs & children have been advised not to be allowed in it, and dogs have died. This year it might not be an issue because of the rain we had, but I would look into it first since you're vision includes the pups paddling around while you relax

    Otherwise russian river is great!!

    Great ideas! Thanks.

I don't know why I didn't think of Canada...The boys can get stamps in their passports.

Blue-Green Algae is seasonal, late spring and summer are the worst. Fall should be OK, but she should check before she goes to any body of water. Moving water is better than standing. It really scares me, because once they are exposed, there is nothing you can do!!
