    "I'm A Fun Guy"

    Aye Mates,
Let me first state that I am not a mycologist nor do I pretend to be. I do not have any knowledge regarding safe vs. poisonous mushrooms and I leave them alone when I see them, just admiring them or taking photo's of them.

I am writing this post as a reminder that each year numerous cases of amatoxin (mushroom) induced poisoning is seen in our dogs. As a dog owner, make yourself aware of the symptoms of mushroom poisoning and keep the number for Animal Poison Control handy on your home and cell phones. If you suspect your dog has been the victim of amatoxin ingestion, seek immediate veterinary care.

I live in the Northeastern USA and there has been a real spike in mushroom growth in the last week here. Be vigilant and protect ye dogs from this potentially fatal threat.

I've just started seeing them in the past couple days. I get little tiny ones in my yard, and walk around smashing them with my feet. The dogs don't seem to be interested in them which is fine with me.

We have lots of them this year as well. Fortunately Lark hasn't shown any interest at all.

None of our dogs have shown any interest but still, like Barry581, I go out and stomp on all the little ones that come up.

Good info and good reminder. Thanks Irishwistler.

Stare at the photo long enough and you'll see her. LOL. Thanks on the photo.

We used to hunt for mushrooms to eat when I was younger, they are kinda gross looking but taste good. We have the little round top ones in our yard big time this year it has been so moist with the humidity. My Tootsie used to run out and eat them as fast as I could get out and pull them out of the ground. I couldn't just step on them as she would root into the grass to eat them.

The kinds we get are puffy round white balls. Only time my dogs are interested is when they think they're tennis balls.

The only fungus from the wild I will eat are morels and puffballs. This spring Andrew beckoned me over to look at something growing in the yard. Egads, it was a morel, too bad it was a little too far gone to eat. In the fifteen, or so years I've lived here there's been maybe half a dozen morels sprout up. Wish I could figure out what conditions they like in our yard.
Growing up it was a tradition to go out hunting for puffballs in the fall. Mom would fry them up with some butter. Yummy! Okay, now I've got a hankering to start looking for them. Though it's still a little early.
