Aye Mates,
A few more images from yesterday's training session with Miss LEXIE BELLE ON THE COBBLE at QUAIL RIDGE.

Aye Mates,
T'was a fine summer day today and I spent some time this morn working LEXIE BELLE on having her sitting immediately upon the report of gunfire. Gearing the lass toward being steady to wing, shot, and fall (me own preference for what I consider a finished retriever / flusher). Not looking to stir controversy with regard to the preference as to training to sit and remain seated upon flush until sent to retrieve or not, and to that end I say to each their own. It lends itself to me own style of hunting and I'll let the subject rest there. All said, LEXIE had a wonderful session an sat immediately upon the bark o' me 209 primer revolver for 100% of shots fired during the session. All well and good as she has continuously improved her response rate and I will now introduce birds at steadily increasing exposures per session, first with LEXIE tethered on a check cord and eventually progressing to using just me whistle and e-collar to keep her steady upon the flush, the subsequent gun shot and fall o' the bird. Her ultimate reward to become being sent on retrieve. This will be conditioned to perfection through repetition.
LEXIE BELLE was spot on in her SIT response to gunfire throughout today's training session and she is continuing to progress nicely as a retriever that will be conditioned to be steady to wing, shot, and fall. The ultimate form of reward for LEXIE succeeding in this process will be the retrieval of birds.
As LEXIE BELLE and I traversed the stunning training grounds o' QUAIL RIDGE this morning I contemplated just how fortunate I am to work near daily with fine retrievers in such an exquisite setting. It so happened that I had my Panasonic mirrorless compact camera along with me today and I alternated me shooting of it and me 209 prime revolver throughout the session. Following are some of the wonderful images I observed throughout me session with LEXIE today. Summer is slipping by quickly and these scenes will soon change accordingly. LEXIE will be back home and hunting with her owner in a wee bit o'er a month and I will miss training with her. I will also welcome the fall and chasing birds with me gun dog TRAD.
The season's transition is moving in fast forward and I measure it's progression in the natural changes I observe daily and by the success I see the retrievers I work with gained by diligent training. All said, our collective favorite time o' year lays just ahead for those o' us that live to chase birds with smoothbore and gun dog.
Cheers,
THE DOG WHISTLER 🍀

Lexie sounds like she is doing great under your tutelage.
I wonder how many would just walk past awesome vignettes as your pictures show so beautifully. It's like hearing BUT not listening, it's all there for the eye if only we take the time to really see it.
Thanks for sharing.
