go with the pup that best fits your family.

generally speaking a male-female mix tends to be better but labs are known to be easy going and non aggressive so you shouldn't have any issues with two males.

my rocky was easy going with all dogs but seemed to prefer females. i called him a dirty old man but je was awesome with the male fosters too.

It's more about the dogs background and temperament. I like two male dogs myself vs one female and one male.
All my male dogs have got along but leadership needs to come from the owner to establish priorities.

i prefer male dogs (for no reason, i just do). but given i like a smaller dog i'll likely get a female if i go lab

the only time i saw same sex issues was two young females. it was pretty funny they were bff's playing non stop all day then it was suddenly not happy fighting all was well.
i had fixed makes, intact males and recently intacr males. i had a bit of hard time integrating a recently fixed male lab, to my rocky (fixed) and an intact foster (or possibly also recently neitered). but within a few days all was good. one was immature (about 1-1.5) two were adults

I have two intact males and my parents have one intact male. All labs. They all love each other and play well amongst themselves and with other dogs, small or large, male or female. We've never had a female lab, but have had females in other breeds. They were always more aloof and high strung. I don't know if labs are the same or not though. Males were a personal preference for us. From the way you describe Chili, he'd probably get along with either.

Finding a quality breeder is the most important part. They will be able to make a recommendation on sex based on what you're looking to do with your pup.

I think chili a submissive male from my novice opinion as he loves to roll over showing his belly to play very early. only females we housesitted for lon times were chihuahuas and little sheepdogs...all went fine. except they peed too much in my spare bedrooms(thank you black light) to clean after house guests... nephew got a new baby female blue pit and they have a blast playing...but chili cant keep up after 20min...

I've had two Labs for most of the past 33 years, and it's always been one female, one male, the male usually being the younger of the two. It just always seemed to work out that way. FWIW Sophie's breeders always had 4-6 dogs at any given time, and they lived in kennel runs. The boys lived on one side and the girls lived on the other. They were all intact, with the males all being stud dogs.

Also FWIW I can't say I prefer one or the other (males vs females). I will say this, my girls have always been pretty independent, while the boys were kinda glued to me. JenC described it like this, and I quote "the girls love you, the boys are in love with you". I'd pretty much have to agree with that statement.

I have a neutered male currently and he gets along amazingly with all dogs, male, female, intact, and altered, and all breeds. Labs tend to be so easy going honestly it comes down to what you prefer to own. Your mom might have that opinion since she has heard it for certain breeds that are more prone to same sex aggression, labs aren't prone to it and i have never seen a problem with any of my labs or other labs I know (and I know a lot haha) being from a good breeder is always #1 priority. Just from my past female to my current male the female was a little more independent and not wanting to stick by me every second of the day like my male tends to be. She liked to be in the same room or close to the room, but not cuddled up right next to me all time.
