When Daisy was in heat she was extra whiney and needy but not grouchy. She was never grouchy. And she was probably extra needy because I just took her for leashed walks around the block and she was missing her playtime at the park. She didn't interact with any other dogs while in heat.

The girls can be snappy when they aren't "ready" and the male is too interested, or persistent, or rude, once he showed her the respect she wanted, (and probably stopped sniffing up her behind) she was happy to sit by him LOL (we don't call 'em bitches for nothing!)

I agree with you, it's a sign of health and vigor when they older males can still show interest in a girl in season, and makes me smile. It's so cute!!

Some girls can be grouchy, some not, and especially if Daisy wasn't around a male she had to tell off, she may have been grouchy to one, if she had the opportunity. My girls are never ever grouchy with me, they can get mopey, want to be left alone, can be needy, moody, much like us ladies on our hormonal times. :-) They will either sit, or tell off a male if they don't want their attention.
