    Just checking in with Gabby...

It's been a crazy few months, so we've been remiss in browsing the board. We've done a few small road trips to our Pennsyvlania cabin (rivers, hiking, grouse - oh the joy of being a lab!) No larger adventures for this year because our daughter just got married on September 1st - what a great time we had, and it's a joy to add her husband to our family!!!

We're also busy with our 2 moms (79 and 89) and the health issues that seem to appear at these ages. My mom (79) just developed wet macular degeneration in August. Overnight, she went from the crazy dog woman that takes her pup for a ride at all hours, to no more driving. Treatments have begun to try to slow the progression, but honestly it's worse every week.

My sweet MIL (89) has upcoming oral surgery, then a hip replacement in October. The poor woman can't catch a break and it's heartbreaking to see the toll this is taking on her. Fortunately, we're set up to re-hab her at our house, but it's bound to be a bit crazy. The Christmas season fast approaches and the DH and I both work for the post office - Amazon, online shoppers, good tidings - hectic, but fun.

With all of this, dear Gabby will be turning 6 on September 23rd! It's hard to imagine life without her. Hopefully, I'll at least get some birthday pics to post...I'd better make myself a note - lol!

    Happy autumn days to all!

Glad to see you back and a mostly good report. Sorry about your two Mums. It's tough when family get older and you may find, as we did, that they don't tell you everything that's bothering them, healthwise, because they don't want to be a bother and they are being stoic. Were they both able to particpate in your daughter's wedding?

Both Mums were in attendance and had a wonderful time - my mom is a dancing machine!

So glad to see you back. What a busy time you've been having. Time to catch your breath, as much as you can with everything going on. Sending prayers for both your Moms. Having had a hip replacement, your Mom should do well as long as she gets early and good PT. I was amazed at how well the pain was controlled and how fast the transition was from walker to cane; within 2 weeks. About the only problem I had was getting into and out of the tub where I needed DHs help mostly for balance. The bath chair was a great thing while I needed it. Also, a good, fairly firm stuffed chair for sitting; recliners are a no-no. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Wonderful to hear that you had good results...and are "on call"! My mom had hers replaced 3 years ago and rehabbed with us, so I know what to expect. My MIL seems to be in denial, and feels like she'll be back in her home within 2 days...I tried to tell her that wasn't going to happen and she tried to bargain for 3 days...LOL.

Oh golly, I forgot to add this to the chaos during wedding week: my niece just had her first babies - yes, twins! She was 3 days shy of full term pregnancy, in the summer heat, and about ready to literally burst. We were all in the middle of The Party Store, shopping for wedding stuff, when I got the news that she'd delivered 2 boys (they didn't know the sex of either twin). I burst out crying from relief...in the happy occasion store...people avoided our aisle while I broke down - ha ha. We love our Samuel Jacob, 7.4 lbs, and our Augustus John, 7.1 lbs.
