A Skinny Lab, We Don't See Many of Those

LOL, I think a Vet Tech at our Vet's might have gotten a little talking to after we left today. Oban weighed in at 30.8 kg (67.76 pounds) which is a good weight for him. He can go up a bit from there or down a bit without concern from me or our Vet. The title was the comment the Tech made when we rounded a corner and he went to her for a pet. I think she meant it as a compliment but our Vet assured me, as soon as we were alone in her office, that his weight is fine. I think she was worried that I would attach too much seriousness to the comment. I assured the Vet that I knew his weight was fine. There is the fact that his weight should stay down for his illness and for his sore elbow, but he's good. "Skinny" probably isn't a good word to use with a client, especially when you're just a Tech and you don't know the dog's health record.

IN fact, there was a too skinny Lab in the waiting room. She's a rescue from a nearby shelter and she's sick. The shelter lady kept her away from Oban and the other dog in the waiting room. Unfortunately I don't know what she was sick with, I guess they were there to find out. I did ask.

Yes, the vet tech should not have said that, what if your ("your" being anyone's dog, not just Oban) dog was super thin because he was really ill, or dying from cancer or something? That was really insensitive of her to say that to you with out any background, and way out of line.

I am surprised they allowed a sick dog in the waiting room, I sure hope she dog wasn't contagious! One more reason I wait in my car until they call me in, it should be the other way around, that sick dogs wait in the car, and the healthy ones can wait in the lobby. I once had a pregnant bitch with me and a man brought in his dog that had been vomiting and had explosive diarrhea, and she was soaking wet, because he dunked her in his pool before he left home. They let him stay in the waiting room! I immediately left to wait in my van, and this is when I started doing it.

If you come in with a sick dog to my vet, they usually put you in an exam room right away, where you wait for someone to come do the exam. With a healthy dog, you wait in the waiting area until they are ready to examine your dog. They seem to have more exam rooms than vets so it works out.

Skinny labs is almost always meant as a compliment But indeed not entirely appropriate I got that with Rocky because his body shape is not super labby (super high "tuck up").

And I want an Oban-sized labby
