    Harvest Helper

I managed to eek my tomato plants through a few freezes thanks to some cover, but I'm leaving for 2 weeks of work travel on Monday and the plants aren't going to make it until I get back. So today I harvested and started freezing (up to 10 gallons of frozen tomatoes now). Once I'm done I'll do a big batch of tomato sauce.

A month ago I noticed Thor was really interested in my cherry tomato plant. This little goober tries to sneak them off the vine whenever he's in the garden with me. As I picked the last of the harvest from the plant today, trimming the giant plant back as I went, if I dared drop one that would roll away he would dutifully retrieve it for me....but by the time he got back to me it was mysteriously gone and he was licking his chops. I think he got a good 20+ tomatoes today. He's definitely getting a scaled back dinner tonight.

I juiced for about 3 months recently and Samson would be at my feet just waiting for me to drop something for him! He loves kale, carrots, and apples! Despises celery (which is good because it's hard to digest). Oh, he loves cucumbers too! It's obvious Thor had a blast chasing cherry tomatoes! He's handsome.

Thor, you are a great helper and such a cutie. My Cracker use to help me with harvesting everything. He would of course have to do a taste test before I could pick anything. Gabe has no interest in the garden except to smell around and if he finds a chipmunk hole, he digs as deep as possible.
But he does help with the processing by laying at my feet waiting for a sliver of something to fall.

Thor won't touch anything green. He's such a diva.

Thor and Cassie must be long lost cousins - Cassie loves cherry tomatoes and she too doesn't touch a green one. My poor plants suffered from Cassie's morning ritual of walking out to the garden and pulling any red one's within reach. When she knows I'm on to her, she hides behind a Holly Tree and waits for me to either come out and bring her back or go back inside so she can continue to munch tomatoes. Thank goodness she didn't figure out pulling the cucumbers because she likes them too.
