    A living memorial.

You may remember that back in May we let go of Stella. The network our vet clinic is in has a great program - when you let go of a pet you can purchase a tree and participate in a planting ceremony.

Faye and I along with about a dozen other people did that today. There was a short reading, a poem was read, then we planted our trees. I was able to select a redbud sapling (Cercis canadensis) which two of the techs planted. Afterwards we gathered again and chatted.

It seems like a strong young tree and I look forward to watching it grow. I may not see it get old and large and that's fine. This proverb gives me a lot of contentment.

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in. - Greek proverb.

    Here's a photo of Stella's tree.

I wish there was a little heart symbol when you thank someone on their post. What a lovely concept and tribute.

What a beautiful tribute and great idea. More trees are needed all over.

It is a most wonderful tree.

Beautiful idea. Love tree planting as a memorial.

With not enough room in our yard, I've been choosing a special plant/flower and planting it.

smartrock, awww thank you. You are very kind.

Tanya, it is a great idea. They have done this for 19? years now. The municipality is kind enough to allow this on municipal land.

Fran, what a good idea to put in a special plant or flower at home.

Just saw th answer to my question right above. I thought you were taking the trees home to plant in your yard. That is a nice idea.

    Beautiful tribute to Stella.

On the day we lost Max my "Esperanza" plant that I had been grown from seedling gave it's first flowers. I have 6 "Esperanza's" that grew from the seedlings, they are all blooming now, but that first one that bloomed on the day of his passing, I told my husband I want that planted next to Max's grave. I miss him everyday, as I'm sure you miss yours.
