      Ouch!!!

Have you ever bent down over your dog (like to pick something off the ground) and had the dog bounce up hitting your lip with the back of their skull and driving it into your front teeth?

I think the tooth will be OK, but it still aches and the lip was cut all the heck up.

So I will be very careful about doing anything like that again without making eye-contact with the dog first and making dern sure she is sitting still.

Yes. I lean down, she comes up. Serious hurt. I hope your tooth is OK.

I had an orthodontic retainer and the dentist told me to wear it 24/7 to hold the tooth in place (it was a bit loose after the collision). It aches pretty bad at the end of the day. Might have to call the dentist if it doesn't feel better by next week or so. I must have gotten my bell rung a bit 'cause I can't remember exactly what happened, why I was bending over.

Didn't effect the dog at all.

Sam is dangerous that way. I don't bend over if he's near or if I do I put my hand below my head to catch him if he pops up.

      I feel your pain.

Oh yes, though not that badly. Not always my dog either. I've learned to be less friendly with friendly dogs.

I went to Chase's first obedience class with a black eye from that doggy maneuver. I've never been hit hard enough to loosen teeth but I've bitten my tongue from them hitting my chin and been hit in the nose. Our boxers were the worst for that.

The orthodontic retainer sounds like a good idea and hopefully things will firm up and stop hurting as much soon. Maybe not as soon as you'd like but it will help hold it in position. If you haven't worn the retainer for a while, your teeth may have shifted slightly so even putting it in could feel tight or painful. I did Invisilign treatment and if I don't wear my retainers every night, I can really feel it when I put them back in. Good luck and feel better soon!

Been there too! They gave me the same advice, wear the retainer as much as possible. It calmed down after 4 or 5 days but I was nervous that this tooth was going to require an implant. With what I've spent on dental work, I could have taken one heck of a cruise.

Been there and done that. One time I was bending down to get an acorn out from between Gabe's toes and he was reaching his head down to smell it, then raised his head up and I ended up with a black eye. When people asked about it, I just told them it was from a bar fight!!!

Both of mine like to put their heads between my face and whatever I might be doing/looking at on the ground. Mercifully, neither is prone to raising back up quickly.

Dan split my nose, though, when he was 9 weeks old. Even at that young age, he had great bite inhibition...and I took advantage of that in the way that everybody does (). I played bitey face with him. I honestly don't remember if the action that snagged my nose was me raising up or him pulling away, but his little tooth caught the edge of my nose and the cartilage ripped. Clean split. It wouldn't stop bleeding at first and my doctor's office said to go to a minute clinic (what do I have a doctor for?). Since I didn't want my little guy to have a black mark on his record (anticipating that the mostly foreign staffed clinics around here might have a doctor that doesn't realize that a 9 week old pup can't have had a rabies shot), I opted to keep pressure on it and get a prescription filled by Bob's office for a good antibiotic. It healed perfectly and Dan's record is clean. And we still play bitey face...just a bit more carefully on my part (he's always careful).

A friend of mine at the park had a hyper Jack Russel who loved me...and Gracie was a jumper. Despite my best efforts (after the first bump), she managed to split my lip. I don't see them anymore or that probably wouldn't have been the last time.
