    Fate?

You may remember that we fostered dogs last year. One of them was a hound cross named Lucy. We were *this close* to adopting her before she was chosen by someone to be their dog.

Well Lucy (now named Samantha) landed at the local shelter, now run by the rescue we fostered her for. We will take Fitzi to the shelter this weekend for a meet and greet - unless someone chooses her before then. We've thought about and talked about how Fitzi would probably do well having a house-mate with a similarly high energy level, how it's not right to expect mellow senior Achilles to be that companion. Lucy/Samantha was, and we understand is, a high energy girl so in that way she could be a good match for him. Having fostered her for several months it's good to know her temperament and personality quirks, understanding that there may be some things that we would have to learn..

I think we are ready to have a new dog. Not a replacement for either dog now, nor a replacement for any and all that have gone ahead. Simply our next dog. Samantha/Lucy could be the right one at the right time.

    We will see.

Here's a photo of Lucy/Samantha from her time here last year.
    Andrew, Faye, Fitzi, and Lucy

Not gone, only gone on ahead - Bruno, Rex, BoJo, Kendal, Kingsley, Moonpie, Avis, Corndog, Stella, and now Achilles

Good luck with the meet and greet. Hopefully she was given up for her high energy and not miss treated in any way.

Lucy would make a wonderful fit for an addition. Hope the meet goes well and she can come home with you, where she belongs. She is beautiful and well cared for in the photo and hope she is still like that when you see her again.

I went to see Lucy yesterday at the shelter and she was the same high energy, silly girl. She may have remembered me for a second, but was much more interested in going to the door and hopefully getting another walk in. Talked with the shelter people and they are hopeful that it will work out with our crew, but also said if it doesn’t we can bring her back. I sure hope everyone gets along. They also told me that the owner was very upset when he turned her in, but life situation changes and it’s better to surrender her than crating her, or leaving her isolated outside. Fingers and paws crossed that it all works out.

I happened to see her posted on a coworker/friend’s Facebook wall and thought “hmmm, that sure looks like Lucy”. Spent a good chunk of the day comparing the two photos on the shelters page and the photos we took of her. Even called the shelter and asked. Was assured that it wasn’t likely Lucy. Still sceptical. Went to work in the afternoon and saw my coworker and said to her that the dog she posted sure looked like Lucy. Her reply, it is. I said we’d consider adopting her. Half an hour later she had talked to shelter people and got a message to me that if we wanted to adopt her the adoption fee would be waived. We have a pretty small house, so it could be pretty interesting with three 50+ lb. dogs in it. It will cut down on heating costs for the winter. We will have our own three dog night warmers.
