Chloe’s very obedient, but it does depend on context. She knows when she’s “working” and when it’s more casual and her behavior corresponds. On the plus side if I need her to listen, I can use my working tone with her and she will, but otherwise she acts like a normal, mostly trained but not precision Obedience dog.
The young dogs are still works in progress but judging from their current behavior they’ll be similar to her. For example, when I do a dumbbell retrieve in Obedience, Sass waits until she is sent, goes out directly, grabs it properly and returns to front. If we toss a fun bumper in the park, she grabs it and has “party of one” chasing after the other dogs with it in her mouth while they retrieve. Interestingly though, when it’s time to put them away and continue on our hike she will bring it right over. I’m sure if I needed her to retrieve bumpers in the park like the other two do, I could teach it, but we do it for them to have fun, so I don’t really bother as long as she doesn’t actually run off, which she doesn’t.
They all have excellent recalls in every context though.

They say there are 3 kinds of retrievers. those who have broke, those who will break, and those you don't want to own. Vic
