    Treats, sort of :)

I was chopping up some kale and had the rib cut away waiting to throw into compost bucket. Sensed eyes upon me, and sure enough Lucy was looking up expectantly. Decided what the heck, see what she does with it? She chomped it down, gave one each to Fitzi and Achilles and they seemed to enjoy them as well. Cut the final one into thirds and gulp, down the hatch.

What unusual treats does everyone’s dogs like?

Our dog when I was growing up preferred raw cabbage over anything. He would sit in front of the fridge if he knew a head was in there.

Gabby hasn't met a safe veggie or fruit that is unacceptable. The weirdest is probably pomegranate arils...just a couple at a time though.

Wow, reading everyone’s responses, I think our dogs can be more adventurous in their food tastes than we are. BoJo, one of our previous dogs liked raw cranberries and romaine lettuce ribs. My first lab, Bruno would scarf down raw tomatoes when I walked through the fields around my house. He did have discerning taste buds though, if it had a bad spot on it he would be more likely to take a chomp and then spit it out.

Sophie loves bananas. I swear if she were on death row, her request for a last meal would be bananas.

The list of what he won't eat is much shorter. Rhubarb, lemon (but Oban loves oranges) and salted pretzels are the only ones I can think of right now. When I am working in the garden every one of our dogs has lain right outside it waiting for me to throw something their way.

Bubba will eat almost anything. The weird things he doesn't like are salty snacks. We don't give these to him, but if he found a chip or pretzel on the floor he wouldn't eat it. Now we know for sure because we've offered them to him just to test the theory and he spits them out. Wish I had the same self-control!

The things we always give him if we're eating them are carrots, bananas, and what I call "trashcan broccoli" or the broccoli stalks that you would normally throw away. He LOVES those.

Sometimes he'll eat lettuce, sometimes he won't.

I made the mistake of picking red raspberries with Gabby. She quickly learned how to get her snout in the bushes and pick off ripe berries, one by one. Needless to say, I don't harvest many off our own bushes now.
