This is really scary! Maggie just had her first weekend at the lake and was in and out of the water the entire time. I wonder if any parks are testing samples and publishing the results anywhere?

The state park where we will be camping this weekend has an advisory on their website that they have detected high levels of algal toxins. Swimming is not recommended for the old, the young, or those in ill health.
    Scary stuff!

These stories about poisonous algae come up every summer. It is scary for sure, we have a huge lake on our property that I let my dogs swim in, but would probably be cautious anywhere else.

Neighboring town doesn't have just algae to worry about. Look at what this fool did and now the lake is affected. Not just Mother Nature that brings toxins to the water ways.

The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality posts results of popular lakes that it tests. Maybe your states have something similar if you look? I just googled and found Nebraska's. I had no idea there was such a department.

It is scary and why I only let Maxx swim in the pool. It is definitely not something new but does seem to be getting worse. Do you have areas Bacon can swim that are not "standing" water like a pond? If not I would stay out of the ponds until the danger has passed. Maxx said Bacon can come share his pool any day!

Well I see the report about Lake Erie but I know people still go swimming around here. Was planning on having Daisy swim in the Sandusky bay this weekend since she's finally healed enough to go swimming again. I'll keep my eyes out for algae though.

Unfortunately a lot of the water testing is not up to date in New Jersey, so maybe since this is a big issues for those who love their dogs to enjoy lakes, streams and even the ocean, word of mouth (people in the area that frequent) could be your best bet to find out if their is an issue.

Shame to stop this excellent exercise for your pups. Just be cautious, I would think, as this has always been an issue and will always be.
