    Stir Crazy!

Don't know who's going to crack first, Katie or me. Only 9 degrees outside, slight breeze. Any extended time outside is impossible. Tried to poop scoop but it was all frozen to the ground/grass on contact. Poor Katie couldn't even dig a hole, ground too hard, not that I wanted her to but it would have at least been some exercise. We do play a game when she comes in. She grabs a stuffie and winds around and through my legs while I give her a rub down to warm her up. She does not get "cold" because fingers buried to the skin find warmth, it's the outer coat. She loves it and demands the game every time she comes inside. Spoiled, nope.

The one going stir crazy here is Joey, the inside/outside cat. He desperately wants to be outside. If we are out he'll run around outside following us. Otherwise he retreats to the garage, heated for outside cats, but not by much. Then as soon as we open the back door he wants in again. I have to play with him a lot more to use up some of his energy.

We did take Oban for a walk this morning and today was hard on him. It was -18C (~0F) and there was a crust on the snow since we hit +11C two days ago. The crust is not strong enough to hold him up and the snow pack only went down by about half, or a foot. So when he broke through he got a jolt. LOL, when we got back home first I ice his legs, then I ice mine.

It was so nice here yesterday into the low 60's Ginger was loving life then it started to rain and then sleet with about 4inches of snow to follow. She is not a happy camper with temps in the 20's and has resigned to waiting for her coat to be put on before she goes outside, of course she only makes it a couple of steps onto the deck and into the snow before squatting. Sarah on the other hand is loving this weather just have to make sure she doesn't spend to much time outside at one time. Sarah did go out with me this morning to add bird seed to the feeders and tamp down an area around them so the morning doves could come in and eat.

So winding through your legs, eh. Maybe you should teach her to dance with you, do leg weaves and so on. Come compete in Canine musical freestyle.

Maybe try Katie out on some indoor scent work? I've been playing "find it" with Gabby since the weather turned to...well...crap. She loves her kibble, so I'll grab a few, send her to her wait spot (our bedroom), let her sniff my hand full of kibble, then I go out and hide pieces around the house. I release her with "find it!" and off she goes. It's keeping all of us sane.

On a side note: when my DH goes out to snowblow with Gabby, he's learned to put his aftershave on her ball so she can find it in the deep snow. Otherwise, we've learned that the toys get lost in the neighbors yards as he works, and we end up with a pile of her toys by our mailbox when the thaw happens!

Started find it last night. Beginning stages where it have to point to the spot but I think she is getting the idea.

Great idea with the aftershave trick!
