    Playing with the neighbors' puppy

Our neighbors have a 4.5 month old black lab puppy, Magnus. This weekend, we were invited over to play with Magnus. We said hello to the human neighbors, and then got right down on the floor with the puppy. They kept saying, "Don't you want a chair?" and we were all, "No, no, we're fine!" Magnus was super wiggly and curious. He's getting better with biting- we kept redirecting him with stuffed toys in his mouth. He still likes to nibble clothes; he was very interested in chewing on the velcro on my husband's cargo pants.

After a little bit, we went outside, where we all spent time fishing acorns, sticks, and pebbles out of Magnus's mouth. He was alternately very interested in us and very distracted by All. The. Things. Outside! A few times, he got the puppy zoomies and ran around the yard in circles.

Guys, I tried taking photos but they all came out as a blur because, well, he's a black lab puppy. One time he was sitting still and I called his name to get him to look at me- but instead, he jumped up and tried to eat the phone.

We left after about an hour. We had a great time, and agreed, PUPPIES ARE EXHAUSTING.

aww good to get some puppy fun without it being full time

I always sorta questioned it when people said they forgot what a puppy was like after loosing their senior, i though it was odd to say.

BUT OMG! I get it. I so get it. It being just Rocky and me living the "senior dog" life - it really it completely different. When I am next with a young dog full of beans it will be a shock :P

    AWWWWWWW!!!! Sounds like fun!

We hadn't had a puppy in about 25 years when we got Sophie. You really truly do forget just how much work a puppy can be. I will say I'm about puppied out at the moment, and I'm happy Brooks has started to mature a bit, but it is so much fun watching a puppy learn and grow.

Yay, but it would be so worth the time, effort and love you put in, as you well know. Just look at the excellent outcome of Brooks, what a magnificent specimen of a true lab!!

Hey Kimbersmom's, I know the time is still raw with the feeling of loss, but maybe you could spend a little more time with Magnus ( to teach him and help train) and then MAYBE think about another.

Brooks is turning out to be an amazing dog. There is no doubt that he has benefited greatly from what I learned from Sophie and Bruce. I know somewhere out there Bruce is smiling at Brooks progress.

We are already thinking that way. Once we’re more settled in our new jobs (we both started new ones two weeks ago) and have our housing situation worked out, we’ll start seriously looking. In the meantime, Magnus is great puppy therapy.

Magnus sounds like just the right dose of puppy! It's been four years since Thor was a little puppy. Just long enough for me to forget what a nightmare my wonderful, snuggly, cuddly, perfect dog was. Just long enough for me to be ready for another - hoping to get good news out of the breeder's litter due in mid march. Now I'm getting the 'puppy prep panics!"

I can certainly (YAWN!!!) relate to all of this. Try raising 2 big litters born only 11 days apart.... 10 down, 11 to go (most this week/ end TG as I seriously need some better sleep!).
