    Is it fleas?

Since we've moved, I've noticed a small bug that hops on me when I'm on the couch. It looks like a flea, and it hops like a flea. Ugh. BUT... I only see one, maybe two, over the course of hours. I don't see them every day- maybe once or twice a week. And DH and I have no bites- I've done a very close body check.

We don't have any animals, fwiw.

    What do you think?

Probably fungus gnats. Harmless but annoying.

If it looks like a flea and hops like a flea....

Only on the couch? I'd start there.

I don't think bed bugs can hop or jump. I can't think what they might be.

Why do the 2 from NE Ohio know about fungus gnats?!? That is exactly what I was going to say. I'm dealing with them right now because they're in our ficus tree dirt.

In answer to kimbersmom: Do you have houseplants? If so, it may be the gnats (but I will admit to having them by the hundreds...it's a very big pot of dirt that has now been isolated to one closed room...ugh.) Google them, since they don't look like a typical gnat.

You could be proactive, in case it actually is fleas. Try this, ignore the candle part at the end...ha ha. I do recommend placing the water/soap trap under a light at night. Don't even ask how I know this trick:
    "1. Dish soap

This home flea remedy involves creating a flea trap using dish soap and some water. All you have to do is fill a plate or bowl with a mixture of warm water and dish soap and place it in the rooms of your house which receive the most flea activity.
The water and dish soap solutions act as a glue, trapping the fleas due to the high viscosity of the solution. You should repeat this method with a fresh batch every day.
For this flea home remedy to work effectively it should be conducted at night time. This is because, for the most part, fleas are nocturnal creatures. It has been suggested that placing a candle near the solution will help this natural flea remedy, but this is not advised due to the potential fire hazard a naked, unattended, flame can cause.

Yes, I read up on bed bugs too and fortunately, it doesn’t fit.

Too funny! They are in my house right now and I cannot figure out why. They are driving me nuts. The cats are chasing them around knocking everything off the counters.

You might have moved into a house that already had fleas (and were just WAITING for you......). That happened to me once, a long time ago......
