I Guess Just Because You Asked Me Doesn't Mean You Have to Heed Me.

Friends got a puppy. I was asked about breeders, I explained about health checks, health guarantees, breeder support etc.; they went to a BYB. In what follows there seems to be no support.

I was asked about spaying, I provided a link to the health info we have here; they spayed her before 6 months.

Puppy is nearly a year now and has constantly repeating UTI. I was asked, I in turn asked about inverted vulva, provided links to GR boards where incontinence was discussed, this before her spay, and after. She DOES have an inverted vulva, the Vet spayed her anyway. She has now had her SECOND bladder draw for sterile urine to check and is lethargic and not eating since. The Vet may have pierced the bladder wall on the other side or hurt her back when doing the draw without anaesthetic. Poor little puppy girl has since been Xrayed and ultrasounded from stem to sturgeon (sp?) and such can not be found.

I'm not a breeder or a Vet so I tried not to sound like a know it all, even though my opinion was asked. I did provide scientific literature to show where I got the information I had learned. Their cry now is "why didn't anybody tell me this?" I did, I did.

It's hard to be sympathetic when your neck veins are bulging...

Poor little pup. What's the saying? You can lead a horse to water but later he will say that was Fake News?

they ignore all you say yet keep asking you for advice? Urgh.

Poor puppy. they would have saved a ton of money had they listened to you (even by buying from a reputable breeder and not spaying).

Yep. So frustrating. I feel bad for the puppy, but have zero sympathy for the people.

People make me crazy. Hope this dog doesn't end up abandoned at a shelter.

There is another "thing" with this puppy. She is taking agility lessons and the place she's going has her doing low jumps and weave poles. Low jumps if not too many should be ok, I think. But weave poles? I thought the consensus was no twisting or impact till growth was complete? Not till 18 months? She is 11 months old now.

Let's take bets now on when this puppy gets diagnosed with dysplasia or a torn cruciate. I bet these idiots will also start improperly exercising the dog on a regular. This puppy is going to be "loved" to early onset arthritis and other issues. It probably didn't come from a properly raised, health-tested background either. Double whammy -- dumb breeder + dumb owners.

Well, knowing the training behind weave poles, it's probably all right. The puppy is nearly a year.

We've had friends get their share of BYB pups. smh
