Picking your dog out of a crowd

I saw this conversation elsewhere and thought it would be fun here.

If your dog was playing in a group of hundreds of other dogs of identical breed, how would you know which one is yours?

As for Thor, I would start making a cup of coffee. Whenever I run the grinder he comes running from wherever he is and jams himself between my legs for butt scratches while the water heats up and I do my pour-over cup.

With Sophie I'd crack open a banana, which would have her running to me at a full gallop. From anywhere. Brooks, I don't know, most likely he wouldn't venture to far in the first place.

All I'd have to do is bend down and call Katie. She has the cutest face and ears when she runs to me. Another identifier, since she had a litter of puppies, her has one nipple that hangs down just a little and it is black.

Both of mine would be too nervous around too many other dogs at the same time. And they'd probably both be barking with their very (differently) unique voices.

That aside, though....with Sunnie, all I'd have to do is pull on a pair of jeans. Sunnie comes running when I put on my "magic pants" because that means walkies. She'd also start woofing.

With Dan...I'd just have to wave or point in the direction I wanted him to go. Or I could wink and flick my head in that "come on" move.

I know mine by look. We have 3 chocolate lab brothers (same mom)....while they can appear similar at a quick glance, each is distinctive. The same way I can find my husband in a crowd of big tall guys with bald heads and goatees when we are in Costco on a busy Saturday! LOL

If all of the dogs fell asleep at the same time, picking Dan out would be very easy. He's a VERY active and noisy sleeper...definitely not a dog you want sharing your bedroom at night.

Ginger has a patch on the back of her neck that looks like a goose. Sarah has a twizzle at the tip of her tail

When we would go to LRR reunions the director always told people to put an identifier like bandana etc on their dogs since there were so many black labs at the picnic so you would be able to identify your dog.

Larky has a little vitiligo around her mouth so if all the black females were in a circle around me, wagging and looking happy, that's one way I'd know her. I'm guessing many of them would like whatever treat I was holding.

I could pick out Linus by his banana tail; it's unique in how he carries it, how it wags, the fur.

Sam's face is pretty distinctive. It's a conformation Lab head, but there is something different about it that runs in his sire's family. I think it's the eyes.
