Are you good at identifying mutt mixes?

Help with science! (Note- it's real science, not Buzzfeed science, so it takes a while to go through the survey.)

    About The Project

Darwin’s Dogs, a project of the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT, and U-Mass Medical School, has been conducting ancestry research on thousands of dogs, analyzing DNA saliva samples to tell us the genetic history of our canine companions.
In conjunction with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), the team is launching a “citizen science” survey. The data collected will tell us a lot about how people perceive breeds and mixes, how different breed mixes affect the appearance of a dog, how well people can guess their canine friends’ ancestries from looks alone, and how that might affect our lives with dogs. This information is vital to many future projects throughout the scientific world.
    How To Participate

The survey will introduce you to 31 mutts. You’ll be asked to guess the 3 breeds contributing the largest percentage of DNA for each dog.

    • Only the answers to the “practice survey” will be given at this time. This is real science, and we need to be sure everyone’s giving their best guesses without influence or hints from others.
    • At the end of the research period of 60 days, each participant will be sent a certificate of participation and the answers to what makes up each of these wonderful mutts.

I will take a look soon. Not confident I will be able to ID mutts since meeting a neighbour with her new dog yesterday. George looked all Lab to me, quite a lovely head, but turned out he's half GR. On purpose yet.

When I first saw Sunnie, I thought she was a Lab/Aussie mix. Subsequent DNA test showed Lab as her predominant breed and Aussie as the fourth (Standard Poodle second and Husky third).

I'm going to look at the test later in the day when I have the time.

I started it - wow hard!

I have to add I am not entirely convinced on DNA tests on dog breed ID being accurate all the time.

So far I got 1/2 of the first practice dog, 1/2 of the second practice dog, and 2/3 of the third practice dog.

Have to go feed my two but I plan to continue. Yeah, this is tricky.

I can tell you right now what the response will be after they review my answers.

    "You suck at this!"

There were quite a few dogs where my choices included breeds that weren't on the list. And certain breeds seemed way overrepresented in my answers...I didn't use nearly all of the offered breeds (don't know if they were all supposed to be in those dogs or not).

I'll bookmark the site in case I have to go back and compare the pictures to my answers/correct answers. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm going to be really surprised.

It is hard! I'm okay when I have to guess just 1 or 2 breeds. When you get to three, I'm all
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
