    Biting at tail base: concerned

Sunny will constantly go after the top of her tail when she wags it, if you play with her, pet her. Like when she is active. She is a very chill 3 year old. When she greets people often she will turn around & try to bite at her tail as well.
I have looked for fleas, palpated it to see if it is sore. I've looked all over the Internet but no help.
i have made an appointment with her Vet for Saturday.

My Honey had a very sensitive tail base. If you skritched her there, she would dance up and down...first alternating legs and then both at the same time. She loved to be skritched (honestly, I thought of it as foreplay, she loved it so much). I'm wondering if Sunny experiences the same sensations when she's super happy (nerve stimulation) and is scratching her own itch. Some dogs "hackle up" (including at the tail base) when they're playing or anticipating playing....if she does this, even if really subtle, the horripilation could easily be stimulating her nerves there.

Hmmm. Google up Stud Tail or tail gland Hyperplasia. That would be down the tail a bit, not at the base. Female dogs can get it too.

Thor has a super sensitive spot at the top of his tail/lower back. Our vet says some dogs just have sensitive spots that can overstimulate them. Thor really likes to be scratched there (he'll stick his butt at you, or if I'm standing around he'll wedge himself between my legs with his head pointing backwards so I'll scratch his butt). He'll swing his head back and forth and make a loud grunting sound when he's scratched there, sometimes reaching around to go after the spot himself.
