    Weird Weird Behavior.....

Funny thing happened with our two boys Sunday morning. Murphy was chilling on the floor by DH and I. Mayson walked into the room and got near Murphy. Murphy clearly smelled something about Mayson and he stood up and started sniffing Mayson's face. Before I knew it, he was licking Mayson face and head. Little licks, kind of like kisses. Then he got closer sniffing Mayson's mouth, same thing, little licks. This went on for about 5 minutes. DH and I wondering...what the H$LL is this? Mayson would take a few steps away from Murphy, and Murphy would follow. After about 5-7 minutes, Murphy mounted Mayson from behind! I know mounting can be normal, but our dogs RARELY do this so it was a sight to see!

Any thoughts about this interesting start to a Sunday morning? I'm not concerned about it, more just curious.

Oh yeah, both dogs are male and neutered. Murphy is about 5.5 years and Mayson is about 1.5 years.

The licking makes me think that Mayson got into something tasty and delicious! My little guy did the same thing to Thor this morning after I shared my peanut butter with him and he made a mess of it all over his face.

The face licking could easily be a sign of domination...as can the mounting. Mayson just might be getting to the age where Murphy is seeing a bit of a challenge. I'd watch it.

[My Akita girl dominated my yellow girl and it started with mouth/head licking.]

Bear licks Maverick when he has an ear issue going on. Maybe try checking his ears?

Meeps beat me to it, ear infection. I've heard ear infection or UTI might provoke similar behaviour. Right down to the humping.
