    Puppy Names

I need name ideas for my puppy who is coming home at the end of August!

Originally I was hoping for a girl, but since there were only three girls and one girl is a keeper, there are two. The odds of a boy are better. I'm OK either way. I told the breeder that I want the best fit, regardless of sex, size, color, etc. Parents' names do not really resonate and this breeder does not do themes.

The puppies were born on the first day of summer. I love travel, good food, wine, culture, the great outdoors. I'm inspired by strong women. I'll be doing field work, agility and obedience. I'm sure I'll do some of the fun side-sports such as dock diving and barn hunt. I expect this puppy to be versatile, biddable, drivey, athletic, but not incredibly intense or a high roller. So, a name like Turbo or Rocket would probably not be a great fit. I don't have a theme for my current dogs, and tend to gravitate toward real names (as opposed to names like Pose, Sizzle, Bonus, etc.) that are two syllable and my friends tease that my dogs' names (past and current) sound like they go to prep school in the Hamptons. LOL! I don't like cute names for my dogs that typically end in "ley", "ie", etc.

Here is what I have so far...

    For a girl:
Lola - registered name idea is Kennelname's Champagne and Cherry Cola or Kennelname's What Lola Wants Lola Gets
    Summer
    Soleil
Venice (recently came back from Italy, loved Venice) - registered name idea is Kennelname's When In Rome

    For a boy:
    Radar
Riddley (means a meadow of reeds)
Reed (which I decided I liked after reading about Riddley) - registered name ideas are Kennelname's Whistle by the Water - which is a play on both parents' names, too
    Cyrus
    Ravi ("sun" in Hindi)

    Ooh....I like Soleil and Ravi.

Venice could easily become venison and Lola is extremely common around here

Despite our knowing a human Ridley, Rid, I kind of like that anyway. I like Reed too. Soleil is nice but I think it might become Solly, which is male to me.

Did you see my thread on names? Freyr is the norse God of Summer. I think it would become Frey. You could look up all kinds of god and goddess names. I will make a new thread to show why I got into God/Goddess names recently.

I like Summer for a female, given the birthdate. I like Cyrus for a male.

We're also struggling with names for our male puppy, coming home mid-July! I'm so bad at naming!!

I never had a planned name for any of my pups. I had them for a few days and something always popped up and seemed perfect.

First black gal I had for two or three days. I called it ‘the pup’. Everyone said she was such a sweetheart as she was friendly and loved about everything and everyone. Sweetheart was her name and fit her to a T.

Second gal did nothing but whine from the time I picked her up. It was cute at first, the little grunting whimper type noises. Anytime I was out of her sight… whine, whine, whine. Wendy Whiner turned into her name, after “The Whiners” on SNL. Wendy fit her perfectly.

Last one brought such joy to me. Picked her up on a cloudy, rainy day and she just brightened up my day! She was like a little ray of sunshine. Sunshine was her name. Had I known she would turn into a Spawn of Satan puppy, I might have had a different name for her though….

My next black gal will find her own name, in time.
