    My dog is a hero!!!

So we were at this huge lake. Beautiful spot. Lots of people stroll and jog the path around it. It's loaded with ducks and geese. So I was just swimming my 3 labs. Someone came up to me and said there was a little dog in trouble on the water.

It was some cute terrier mix, shaved down for the summer. He'd pulled away from the mom or kids with him, dashed into the water and was swimming madly after a momma duck and ducklings. Would not give it up. No amount of calling was bringing it back in. At times, it was almost invisible in the center of this huge lake. I asked the mom how long the dog had been out there and she said about a half hour. The water was pretty warm, but still, I wouldn't want to be in it that long.

So I got the biggest white bumper I had and my old Master Hunter Bridget and threw it when the terrier looked our way. I made them short throws so I got it back rapidly, because I had to keep the terrier's mind off the duck. So eventually, he came in to get in on the game. And the mom didn't want to crawl down the rocks to get the leash in the water. (Come ON, lady). I told her... get in, grab him! So finally she got her feet wet and grabbed the lead.

The other kids had two puppies they were holding. I asked the mom to PLEASE go on Youtube and find something about teaching a dog to come. "Oh, he's usually really obedient". I told her obviously he wasn't and she needed to learn how to improve his recall with distractions.

But anyhow... Bridget was a hero today.

The both of you are hero's you for your quick thinking and Bridget for retriving the bumpers consistently. You get an extra attaboy for not tossing the mom inthe lake when she didn't want to go on the rocks to retrieve the dog.
Sadly she'll never do more training on the dog .

You are both heros. Good going. IMagine (and yes I can) not wanting to get her feet wet to help her little dog.
