Opal and Ursa are held hostage by 2 litters of birds...

For the past 3 days we have 2 litters of baby magpies in our backyard that are keeping Opal and Ursa indoors. Being "bird dogs", both girls' instinct kicks in and each have almost caught birds. Thankfully, for the birds, Opal and Ursa are good with their "stand-stays and leave-it" commands, otherwise I'd be posting an obit for a baby birdie, or birdies, instead.
As cute as the babies are (and I'm a bird lover), they're a pain in the a$$ with their loud squawking and hanging out in our yard. Opal and Ursa want their yard back!!!! Why can't they go to the neighbor's yard instead .

One summer we had a killdeer nest in our backyard. Not in a corner, but right smack dab in the middle. If you're not familiar with these birds, they are known for building nests on open ground; how they have not gone extinct is beyond me. Anyway, we did our best to keep Kimber away from the nest. We were semi-successful.

Hopefully the baby Magpies take flight soon!

We, too, had a magpie nest in our trees right next to our house for the first time this year.....Molly passed away in March so she didn't have to be pestered by them, & our Pug is an indoor dog so they really didn't bother her, but they were really on our cat's trail! The momma would follow the cat around, squawking everywhere the cat went. The bird was waking me up every morning with it's Beeeep Beeeep noise.......finally babies seem to have grown up & I think they're all gone now! I certainly hope they don't come back.

    Sorry, no pics.
The rotten baby birds are finally flying and Ursa is back to chasing birds out of her yard. Opal tries to chase them out but is slower.
I hope to never have a killdeer nest in our yard, no birds would survive.
And yes, they're very earlier risers at 5:30 A.M.. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRR!

I'm glad the birds are headed for safer ground and that Ursa and Opal have their own yard back! I don't really know what Lark would do with a bunch of little birds on the ground. She doesn't chase the squirrels or rabbits she sees in our yard and single birds on the ground don't interest her but they're not out there squawking, plus they fly off if she heads in their direction. I don't want to find out!

It sounded funny to me to call a bunch of baby birds a litter but I couldn't really think what else to call them. And we all know what a litter is!
