Sophie has been with Petplan for just over 5 years. Brooks is with Health Paws as it was less expensive than Petplan. I haven't had to make a claim for either dog, and I hope I never do.
I’m not entirely thrilled with the policy I got for my puppy 2 months ago. I wanted to change/upgrade my plan and they won’t let me until the year is up. Which I think is dumb, because I’d be giving them MORE money. Looking to cancel and make a change. Who do you have and love?

We've been with Petsecure (a Canadian company) for 20+ years with no complaints.
We won't own any pets without pet insurance. Opal broke their bank with her early onset of HOD, ED and double TPLOs and they still love Opal as their client - well, actually they love us because we pay the monthly premiums.
We've had petplan for 3 years. Had to make large claim once and it was incredibly easy and they paid it very quickly. It is expensive and honestly in the end we'd probably come out ahead if we didn't have it, but you never know what's going to happen and if it something does we'll be very glad we have it.
I can't say enough about Healthy Paws. Unfortunately I have had many claims: knee surgery, TTA, ear infections, swallowing a toy, bi-lateral ED surgery, eating toxic flowers that I didn't know were toxic, eating napkins......my goodness I'm sure I forgot something! I covered Samson when he was 12 months old and after my experiences with him, I decided to cover Asher at 12 weeks old!
Good luck
I have Nationwide for both of my boys since I get a killer deal through work, it's about half as much as I could find anywhere else and comes straight out of my paycheck. Luckily (knock on wood, fingers crossed, etc) I have never had to make a claim so I can't speak to the ease of it, but some of my coworkers have been happy with it. They do have an online vet service that is free to insurance holders that helped me out on Memorial Day when Barley woke up pukey. They talked me through what to look for and what would constitute a visit to an emergency vet (since it was a holiday). The vet followed up with me later that day as well, which I thought was nice.
Petplan here, had it for 7 years and only one small claim which they paid very quickly. Easy to make the claim and the people on the phone were excellent.
With Healthy Paws, did you need to have a vet well check first? I have seriously been thinking about it w/ Honey... that puppy! The thing is, she can't get her rabies vax for another 3-4 wks since I just did 2nd/final lepto yesterday. The way she flips and spins, I'm seeing $$$... LOL. I could always take her in for just the well check if I had to. Anne

I didn't need a well check for Brooks. I had thought about switching Sophie, and she would not have needed a well check if she had been seen at the vets within the previous 60 days, otherwise she would have needed one. I ended up staying with petplan with her because she was outside that 60 day window, and any savings I would have seen with the premium would have been erased by the cost of the vet check.
I think Brooks didn't need it because he was only 8 weeks old when I got him covered.

I have Embrace for my two. My older dog has been ill off and on with SIBO and they are covering it, no problem. Claims process is nothing for me at all. Vet does it, submits it and I get direct deposited within about 48 hours.
My only gripe is that they do not cover prescription food, which costs twice as much as regular food. I think they should cover a percentage. Anyway, not sure if that is just Embrace or other companies. Worth looking into. For a large dog it is an extra $40-50 per month and could be for the life of the dog depending on the issue.
