So Hemi and I did a one day trip to Dog Scout camp this weekend.
Remember he was 2 tired to finish his search and rescue agility badges. So we went this weekend and completed them. These last ones were pretty tough. So for the badges, he had to walk 8 feet of sewer pipe, then measure him laying down and then set a tunnel made out of wood to his height laying down and he had to crawl through it. These were all things he did at camp. What we went back for was the harder stuff.
Started easy First Jump on a platform 1 and a half times his height, then from there jump on another platform 1 and a half times his height. Then he had to jump on the same platform 1 and a half times his height and jump to another platform that was one and a half times his length away. This was all pretty easy for Hemi. Then he had to walk a course of beams, kind of like the dog walk but say an 8 ft beam, then up cement block stairs to another beam off at a 90 degree angle then over some barrels on their sides, down to another beam etc. Again fair easy easy for Hemi.
The last 2 was much more of a challenge. The first one was he had to lean to climb a 4ft ladder up to a platform. He had to actually learn to climb it, so like a paw on each rung. He kept wanting to jump up on it and jump up the ladder, so this took some learning but he got it. He was able to actually climb a ladder. Which later as I got home I thought to myself, Man I taught him to climb a ladder. This could be a bad thing. I can just imagine next time I am up cleaning out the gutters, up comes a Hemi.
The last one was the one that worried me the most, So now you take a ladder and lay it down on its side elevated above the ground from one platform to another platform. He has to walk the ladder putting his feet on each rung slowly walking along. The first time he fell through a couple times. Dad was there to catch him though. But he had to get back up on his own, I could support him so if he slipped he gently laid down on the rungs, but he had to get himself back up and going. The next time through about half way he figured out he could use the edge of the ladder to stabilize himself which is totally legal and encouraged, it is good for the dog to figure out the best way across.
That was 2 new badges, Search and Rescue - ladders and tunnels. Search and Rescue Levels and Planks.

I'm thinking there's nothing your dog couldn't learn.
Congratulations, Hemi!!!

I am so impressed! And yes, I think you'll need to make sure Hemi doesn't decide to help you on ladder tasks!

Maybe you should just teach him how to clean out the gutters.

LOL Go Hemi, cleaning the gutters!
He is really an amazing dog, and you have done so much with him, you are a great team!
Does he still paint? Are his paintings for sale?
Jeff (07-31-2018)
WOW, that Hemi is a super dog for sure!!! Does he clean windows yet, let me know when and he can do my jobs.
Jeff (07-31-2018)
Both challenges sound really hard. It's the total trust in you that he is willing to try and succeed knowing you will help him and not let him get hurt.
BIG CONGRATULATIONS!

I hate heights! Can Hemi do my gutters too?
Nice job Jeff and Hemi. Hemi's going to need a living room wall to display all his accomplishments.

I am sure you are so proud of Hemi! He sounds amazing.
I know Addie would be very challenged by those tasks, she is not particularly adventurous and never has been, which of course speaks to her owner. (She can sniff out any bananas in a three mile radius, sooo.....when drug dealers start hiding drugs in bananas I figure we are golden.......LOL)
