Well don't I feel silly. Hey $19 x 3 is just a bit more than Lizzy's adoption fee. So we can afford another! I wonder if the Missus will agree? Kidding, gotta save my nickels for vet bills.

yup, i got confused on Scout's 1st anniversary too, Home Again sent a reminder to update his chip info if anything had changed (online or send/call them), and said the annual fee was due.... reading the fine print, the annual fee was for additional services, not the database info, so i didnt pay it. i still get the occasional alert about a lost dog in the area, and a reminder to keep his info current in the database. and that is easily checked and updated online.

I got the same reminder but didn't read the fine print and paid it. Kind of ticked me off but oh well. I won't pay next year.

    Good info to know, thanks!

So I have the home again as well. I DO RENEW EVERY YEAR!!

Ok, so here is the thing, you do not renew the microchip. It is a once done and paid for it is done forever. What you are renewing is their services. Take a look at their services and use them. I have used their services twice and it has more than paid for the annual renewal.

For example, there is only one poison control center for pets. If you call in an emergency situation, which well if you are calling them it is an emergency, it is an $80 charge. Which of course your going to pay, $80 may stand between you and the life of your pup. Being a home again member this is totally free of charge. You skip all the paperwork and go right to a poison expert. I was out in the garage with Hemi we were getting in the car to go somewhere and I had a bucket of the heat ice melt I had left the lid off since it was winter sitting by the door. I turned around to open the door and seen there was stuff on the car seat I picked it up to make room for Hemi and I turned around and his head was down deep in the bucket he was trying a taste. I called the vet, the vet said they were pretty sure they wanted to induce vomiting. However they had to look some thing up. I ran back in the house to get peroxide and seen the fridge magnet they gave me when I started Home again and called the animal poison control. They said not to induce but make sure he drank lots of water over night and to make sure i had a lot available. They had all the MSDS sheets available and how it would affect different pets. Vet called and was like they weren't sure but induce to be safe, however I told them I called the poison control and they were like whew, cause they weren't sure either.

Anyway there are other services as well, so before not renewing, I would suggest looking into their services and see what you may or may not take advantage of. As it stand right now, I hope Hemi lives way past 8 but when he reaches 8 years old and if I do not use another one of their services that's when they will break even. So I recommend reading up about what all you get for your $20 a year renewal.
