What do you guys do if you have a dog that likes to pee/mark his territory a lot? I take my dog in public frequently but rarely into any stores because of that. We go to open public places where it won't be an issue. Be cool to take him inside more than just local pet store.

Some of the smaller hardware stores are fine, and feed stores are usually fine w/ it.

I would have to ask you though, how reactive is your dog? Could he pose any threat to anyone, or make another shopper's visit unpleasant enough they'd complain? If so, you really need to start elsewhere. It's not fair putting a dog that is fearful or whatever into a situation they can't handle. JMO. Anne
He is reactive to other dogs not people. Right now we stay away from Pet Stores. We have gone through 15 weeks of reactive dog training which let me tell you has done wonders for him! We walk daily and work on the training techniques. I have been walking him past the dog park on the other side of the street to work on him being reactive. When he sees people he just wants to love on them which to me can be annoying to someone who doesn't like dogs. I just want to get him out to work on proper manners.

Ace Hardware in our town allows dogs. They have dog bones at the cashier. I took my puppies to the out in the parking lot area of Home Depot and walked them in and out of the Sheds on display to socialize them to different areas. Just walking around the parking lot has lots of sights and sounds. Walking through the town square, in front of the library or even the bus stop. My husband comes to pick me up at the park and ride. Sometimes he brings the dogs and they greet a lot of people standing around waiting for buses.

Took Max as a puppy but he would not be allowed as a full grown lol

I did take Lobo on a regular basis to Lowes simply because I shop there more often. Everyone loved him since he was such a friendly Labrador. The kids absolutely loved petting him and he would return with kisses. Although there was never a problem I now take a dog bag that has supplies to clean up any accidents, treats for rewards and a Gulpy for water.

I should have socialized him more when he was a pup! I did that with my second right away. I was a first time pup owner and my vet had me terrified to take him out. Plus they gave him an extra round of shots which I would have denied at the time. I didn't take him out into the world until he was 6 1/2 months old due to the advice from my vet. I feel bad for him so I am working really hard to get him to enjoy the world.
