    Finding a Dog is HARD

By the end of summer I was ready to seriously start looking to add a dog. I never expected it to be this hard! There is little to nothing in rescue along the lines of what I want (all puppies and huskies). When there is a dog that is somewhat a maybe, they are adopted before i can even get screened. The province's lab rescue WILL NOT SCREEN ME so that's a write off.

I've contacted breeders and there are few older placements to begin with never mind smaller ones. There was one but I had concerns and in the end the breeder decided to keep her. Another I didn't contact due to distance, i wasn't sure enough to make the trip.

Rehomes don't get back or it's a no.

So two months in and I've come up with nada and I haven't even gotten to MEET A DOG point.

This is just a vent. I'll keep looking. I also know that I have a high bar for a dog which makes it hard (narrow age range, size range, and good wtih kids/dogs/cats...) and will require more patience.

At this rate I may end up getting a puppy haha

ETA: if anyone has litter-breeder recommendation - looking for smaller labs for sport-obedience (but primarily pet so not "over the top field" or crazy sporting kennel either)

With how narrow your parameters are, I'd suggest a puppy. That way you fall in love before you realize that he or she is not going to meet all of your expectations!

I couldn't help but think of you yesterday. A local man found a yellow Lab, looks to be a nice boy. The dog is sleeping with him and he's posted photos of them together. The man is smitten and said he would keep this dog. But he found the owner and gave him back.

I know. and funny story I was talking to someone just now about what breeders I should consider and guess who came up :P Rhumbline! (and another breeder who I've talked to actually). Bleh not sure I want a puppy. so much money. Plus for a Rhumbline it would be a long wait for a puppy at this point :P

aww, well hopefully the finder finds themselves a good dog, but glad he was honest and looked for the owner and let him go.

I've heard similar stories. Keep searching, keep at it, the right set of brown eyes is out there waiting for you.

Gosh- do you need testimonials from all the lab board members assuring any agency that you would be the best, most caring, and most dedicated of lab owners? Why will the province lab board not even screen you, do you know? I am sorry this is proving such a frustrating search and hope the right match comes along very soon.

My geography is horrible, but I know someone in Ontario and he does some work with rescues...one of his friends runs SPARRO in the states in PA. I wonder if you got in contact with him if he could help you? His name is Shaun and if you don't know him, PM me and I'll make a connection.
