My husband came home from a trip, Nikki greeted him and he bumped into her. She stood on the porch for a second then "took off". Mind you this is a 14 1/2 year old with cancer, vertigo, arthritis, incontinence and can barely make it up our driveway (which is long) and two houses down. My husband gets me and goes to get the car while I got dressed which is fine even though he doesn't register that she can't get in the car anymore. She was in the next door neighbor's driveway sniffing after he had mowed his lawn.
We had this conversation afterward:
Me: Well at least she's still spry.
Him: There's that.
Me: You know she can't go very far, right?
Him: She can still walk faster than I can!
I guess we're all getting old.

LOL at your conversation, but i can imagine while Nikki was on her little adventure it was pretty scary. Glad she is back home safe and sound, with her stick and hanky in the corner waiting for another day for her to take a little walk on her own.

Bet that made her feel young again. Glad she didn't go far/get hurt.
Oh, seniors. I remember Kimber going on her last walkabout. She went as far as our next door neighbors. She was so happy to be exploring, and DH couldn’t be mad at her. Hugs to your pup.

Makes me smile to think of her thinking she's still young and able! A fine little adventure for your old girl!

Im glad she was okay. Sounds like she thougfhrly enjoyed the smells of your neighbors yard. I still would have been frantic
My husband is still pretty flipped out. He wants to crate her every time he opens the door which, you know, she would have to be awake before that came up. I have to say though as the "walker", I was more concerned about her tendency toward laryngeal paralysis than anything. It was a game for her. She was probably a little miffed that he was on yet another business trip too. She's a funny one. Doesn't help that she's pretty deaf as well. Can't really call her back.
